Hi! I’m Yunze Ni, but you can just call me Jet.  A little bit of information about my background, I am a first-generation immigrant and first-generation college student. Neither one of my parents had the opportunity to pursue an education past elementary/secondary school and had to spend their time working or helping out their parents instead of learning. When my mom was pregnant with me, they made the decision to move to the United States so that I could get a good education and not have to live a life like theirs. I was almost two years old when I first came to the United States, the first place I lived was in New York. Because my parents had to work, I lived with relatives until my parents found a stable job. I went to preschool in New York, moved to Pennsylvania and started kindergarten, but moved again and finished kindergarten in Marietta, Ohio. Since then, my parents have opened up a restaurant there and I have lived there and helped out at the restaurant for most of my life. Academically, I am a freshman with plans to major in Fine Arts (Emphasis: Art and Technology) and minor in Chinese. I chose this major because throughout my life, two things that have impacted me greatly are art and video games. After struggling to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I realized my senior year in high school that I definitely wanted to do something related to art or video games. From that realization, paired with the fact that I knew I wanted to attend OSU, I decided that this major would be the best option for me. My current plan is to get a job related to the video game field (ex. animate or do artwork for a game). The reason I want to minor in Chinese is that although I grew up in a Chinese family, I never learned to become literate in it and did not have much exposure to its culture. Extending my knowledge of Chinese is one of my many goals in college and I hope to be able to do a study abroad there during my time at OSU. Since it is my freshman year, I am excited for all the possibilities ready for me at OSU and can’t wait to see what the next four years of my life are going to be like here.
