Columbus Adventure

My HES group decided to go to Mission Coffee Co. in the Short North area. Instead of walking in the rain, we took the bus to get there. We all got either coffee, pastries, or tea. Mission Coffee Co. had comfy couches, chill music, dogs, and lots of hipsters studying. I enjoying hanging out with my group and getting to know everyone better. I learned a lot about my group’s interests and hobbies. Also, I found that Mission Coffee Co. would be a great place to study because its relaxing and not distracting. I would definitely go back because they had cool coffee with fancy looking foam and a unique atmosphere.

Explore Columbus Part II

I decided to go to Jeni’s in Short North and get ice cream with my friends. There were so many flavors to pick from and I got to try some interesting ones that I had never seen before. The strawberry ice cream was delicious. It was fun to hangout in a chill place. The only bad part of this experience was the rain. It was pouring when we got there and pouring when we left. We all got really wet. Even though the weather was pretty terrible, I would definitely go back to Jeni’s.

Finally, me and my roommates went to Easton Town Center to shop and get dinner. We went into a lot of stores and found some cool shops that are only found in Columbus. I liked exploring the area and finding interesting things. I would recommend to a friend because there are so many places to go to in Easton and there is something for everyone.

After exploring Columbus, I found out that there are plenty of fun things to do in this city. My favorite experience was Stack City because I got to check out the Short North. I learned that different parts of Columbus are unique in their own way and there is more to do than I thought. This experience makes me want to explore more parts of Columbus and see what else there is to do. If someone wanted to explore Columbus also, I would recommend going with a group because its more fun.

Artifact 2

Ohio State football games are a big part of my college experience. Every Saturday, I get to cheer alongside all of the new friends that I have made since coming from Texas to Ohio. These games really make me feel like part of the buckeye community. The excitement and school spirit of Ohio State fans is something unique to this school. Although classes, midterms, and the general stresses of college can sometimes be overwhelming, I know I have something to look forward to every week. After attending my first Ohio State football game, against Oklahoma, I knew that I was in the right place, even though we lost.

Explore Columbus Part I

I chose to explore local food favorites. I am looking forward to trying new food that I can’t eat in Texas. I hope to discover great places to explore and hangout. So far, I’ve been to Stack City, a burger joint in the Short North.

I liked traveling along the Short North and stopping by different shops on the way to the restaurant. I thought the bus system was somewhat confusing because we had to plan out when to leave and find a bus stop. I learned where the Short North is and found many cool shops in Columbus. I would recommend Stack City to a friend and I would definitely go again because the burgers were really good and it had a quirky environment that makes it unique.

Artifact 1

Every four years, my mom’s side of the family gets together for a family reunion. In the summer of my junior year in high school, I got to see them after it had been a few years. I have a large extended family: 6 Aunt’s, 7 Uncles, 19 cousins, and 2 loving grandparents. My family is a big part of who I am and who I will become. Through them, I learned that I can get through anything with the right people. In addition, I realized how important friendships and relationships can be. This experience made me appreciate having people that support me when times are tough and encourage me to achieve whatever I want to accomplish.

About Me

I am Alexandra Ng from Katy, Texas and I am now attending the Ohio State University. My passion for problem solving applications and STEM subjects, along with my wish to help others, has led me to selecting Biomedical Engineering as my major. In addition, I love to volunteer and do my part for the community, making the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars program the perfect combination of both my academic and philanthropic interests.

In the past, I have always been fascinated with the aspects of engineering and biology. I found opportunities to explore these subjects through internships and jobs that involved working alongside professionals that I could learn from. These experiences solidified my decision to pursue a profession in biomedical engineering. They also reminded me of why I am working so hard to get a degree in the first place: people. I know I could not have achieved what I have and hope to achieve without the support of friends, family, and even complete strangers. Every conversation and experience I have ever had has impacted the person I am today. I hope to return the favor by developing the skills necessary to help those in need.

My goal is to eventually find a career that will have a positive impact on the world and challenge me to continue growing in knowledge and experience within my field of study.

My top five strengths include woo, ideation, positivity, adaptability, and includer. I can relate to the woo theme because I genuinely enjoy striking up conversations with new people and connecting with others. Interacting with people of all types and living in the moment is a big part of who I am. Ideation is prevalent in my life because I am always coming up with unique ideas for problems and for fun. I am always finding ways to create solutions and look at projects from different perspectives. Also, I am a naturally enthusiastic person and try to see the positives in every situation. I acknowledge the accomplishments of myself and others so I can appreciate the goodness of the world. In addition, I am highly adaptable and enjoy the challenge of a new, spontaneous situation. I am capable of adjusting to different environments and can complete tasks under changing circumstances. Finally, I am very accepting of others and make an effort to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be involved in activities. I work well in groups and easily help new members feel welcome.
