Nick Pugliese is a graduate of Williams College where he was a soccer star. The Rochester, NY native first took a job in Kabul after graduating. It was while he was there that he decided to give Afghanistan professional soccer a try. It had not been done before by any other American and Pugliese Was not faced with as much opposition as one would had assumed. In the article he states,  “So many people could have stood in my way and said ‘I don’t think it’s a good idea that you’re here,’ or ‘this is an Afghan team,’ and no one said a thing,” Pugliese says in the piece, which is voiced by veteran reporter Tom Rinaldi. “It was just, ‘yeah, come on and play.’ That simple.” Optimistic, Pugliese finishes with saying, “You cannot explain this place in two minutes, I think you couldn¹t do it in two hours,” he says. “I’m not sure whether I will be able to share this experience with people or if it’s something that I’ll just hold with myself for the rest of my life.” There will be a special on Pugliese on ESPN SportCenter.
