I believe that race doesn’t have anything to do with them getting work in a law field, its more of the school and the connections a person makes, but with so little minorities in the field i feel like it scares others from trying to get involved.
Interview answers
Alright cool here they are-
1. Why do you think there are less minorities in the law field?
That’s a good question, and honestly I don’t know the answer. However, there are some concerted efforts to get under-represented students into top schools. See, e.g., https://trials.atfoundation.org/
Trials is the Training and Recruitment Initiative for Admission to Leading Law Schools. It is a residential scholarship program that helps talented and motivated college students of modest means gain admission to the nation’s leading law schools.

2. Do you believe that race has anything to do with if someone will get a job in the field of law?
I’m not sure. I think the quality of the law school matters much more, but I suspect there are big racial differences in the kinds of law schools students attend.
3. What have you seen or experienced in law regarding race?
I don’t really have any experience in law.
4. When it comes to minorities do you think there aren’t as many just because they aren’t trying to do it or because of them being minorities?
Not sure.
5. Do you believe that minorities can be as successful as other races in the field of law?
Absolutely!
6. Do you think that since you’ve been in the law field that the amount of minorities has gone up down or stayed the same?
I’m not in the law field, so I don’t really know.
7. Do you thinks its harder for minorities to get into law and have successful careers?
Again, I think much depends on the quality of law schools attended.
8. Do you think law companies look into a person race before making a hiring decision
I think companies look primarily at law school quality, and then class rank within law schools. Holding both of those constant, I suspect most law firms would prefer to hire a minority candidate to increase diversity.
9. What do you think is the largest hurdle for minorities when it comes to working in law
Financing law school costs.
10. Do you think minorities should try and get into the field of law more and if so how do you suggest they go about this?
In general, I think the data shows that way too many people are going into law (relative to jobs), so I don’t know that I would suggest more people trying to do it…
