Greetings from 2097 Summit

In creating this postcard, I decided that I wanted to showcase the house in which I live in order to show the viewer how fun and inviting of a place it can be. I used my phone in order to take these pictures, uploaded them to my computer, and then used Adobe Illustrator to create the image. In order to make the text three dimensional, I used the “extrude and bevel” effect. Also, to imprint an image on each of the letters, I created a clipping mask. Finally, I layered an image on top of my text and background in Photoshop in order to give the postcard an “old time” feel.

Several Elements of Art and Principles of Design were incorporated into my image. I used color in making the outline of the text bright green. The bright green portrays happy, inviting messages. Green is also a natural color which corresponds to the setting of my house. Additionally, I used movement with the waving text in order to draw the viewer’s eyes across the screen. Finally, I used emphasis by placing my text in the center of the screen. This focuses the viewer’s eyes on the images within the text, which is the primary focus of the image.

There was no critique in class, but if there was one, then I would have modified my image accordingly.

Surreal Landscape

The objective of this image was to take a dream of mine and imprint it on a landscape, which would have the effect of making the image surreal. The dream I chose was one of my roommate and I running away from Pennywise, the clown from the movie It. In the dream, we eventually escaped to my house at which time we looked out my window to see a swarm of cop cars. A horse then fell through my window, and I woke up. In creating the image, I used the magnetic lasso tool to remove the backgrounds from various images. I also desaturated the background in order to emphasize the images of my roommate escaping, the horse, and Pennywise. Then, I simply moved images to where I saw fit. I finished the image off by overlaying red and blue circles to represent the sirens from the cop cars.

Several Elements of Art and Principles of design were used in this image. As mentioned, I used color by desaturating the background to emphasize certain objects. I used movement by having several pictures of my roommate’s face along the road, which is supposed to show how he was running down the street away from Pennywise. This draws the viewer’s eye down the street, as well. Finally, I used proportions by making Pennywise much larger than he actually would be in order to portray the sense that he is looming over the entirety of the landscape.

In my critique, I was told to transform the regular cars that were on the street into cop cars, which I did. Also, originally all of the pictures of my roommate’s face were the same, so I was told to make the images different in order to show a progression of time, which I did.
