Studio Space Rendering

Getting Started.

When getting started with this project I first had to get my graph down. When starting my graph I had to decide what kind of perspective I wanted. I felt like I wanted a graph that was more on the wide side rather than long and skinny so I went with a 14×15. I drew my graph pretty dark that way I could see it good through the parchment paper.  I knew that I was going to end up redrawing my final onto a new paper so drawing it dark wasn’t a big deal. To make this graph I started with the horizon point. Then I measured out 14 feet across and I drew at each point, a line towards the vanishing point. After that, I made a perpendicular line on the edge about 10 in up because I was thinking of a room with a higher roof. Then, to get my horizontal lines, I put a point off to the side I drew a line from the point to each point on the bottom of the graph this way I could then could find where to draw my lines going down the floor of the graph. Finally, I made perpendicular horizontal lines starting at each point of the horizontal lines while also using the fence method to make sure each line was correct. Finally, I drew my wall lines from each inch on the first line back to the vanishing point.

First Drawing.

For my first drawing, I didn’t pay attention to much detail. I didn’t think much about the measurements or the quality of the drawing I just was getting used to drawing on the graph. The hardest part about drawing on the graph for me was the things that weren’t close to the wall. It was hard for me to get good measurements when the wall wasn’t very close to the object I was drawing. This drawing was sorta my canvas for ideas drawing. I drew whatever came to my head without too much focus on a theme. I drew down some things I knew I wanted to be in my final drawing like a desk, bed, windows, and a wall transformation. In this drawing, I didn’t like the roof. It was flat and boring so I knew that for my next drawing I was going to think more about the shape of the room.

Second Drawing.

For my second drawing, I messed around with the shape of the building. I made the room go up but I also purposely made it uneven. I felt like this was an interesting design so and was much more interesting than the flat ceiling. But it was still kinda boring until I drew in some windows on them. I thought about how much natural light you would get with this but it also made the room look more interesting. I also messed around with some floor modifications. I tried putting in a staircase entering into the building but I didn’t feel like I really liked this. I also added some detail to the floor like wood. This made the room look a lot less pain. I tried a different bed style that I’ve always wanted in my room. I really liked this but I felt like it took up a lot of space. In the end, I really liked this drawing but I still felt like I could do better.

Third Drawing.

For my third drawing, I thought more about the room that I have always wanted. It came to me that I have always wanted a log house because I liked the way their roofs and walls looked. For this drawing, I tried putting in some wooden looking beams and a fireplace to make it feel homier. I also gave it more of a theme so the bed that I drew has a wooden looking frame and the walls have a texture like they are wood planks. I added some windows on the back of the wall this time and the ceiling. This time I also added a door for a closet. I realize now that I could have drawn one of the doors open so I could draw in clothes and also showcase that I know how to use different vanishing points with an open door but it didn’t come to me at the moment. Other than a few things, this drawing was pretty similar to the others but I just put more detail into it for it would be my final drawing.

Final Process.

For my final drawing, I was thinking of the easiest way I could transfer my drawing from tracing paper to the drawing paper. I thought that I could just do a very accurate sight drawing but I felt this was too time-consuming and was more destined to have erased marks. I also knew about a light board but the one at the design building wasn’t there anymore. So I decided to make my own. So with my iPad, to containers, and a piece of glass, I had my own light board. I downloaded a white screen and turn my brightness up all the way so I could see the lines best. And then after I had my custom light board set up I could start tracing my final drawing.

Difficulty’s

Some of the difficulty I had for this project was some of the drawing techniques for transferring things into my drawing studio space. I feel like this method of transferring my drawing from 2d to 3d could be very useful, but for me, this felt like more of a hassle than if I were just sight drawing it then perfecting it. I might just need more practice in it but for this project, I didn’t use it too much. Other than this I felt pretty confident with this project.
