Observation Drawing Process

Design 2310 Observation Drawing

Location and draft 1

For this assignment we had to create 2 observation drawings or 2 different places. For my first location I started with the scene in front of Hayes Hall. I chose this area because of how it makes me feel. I feel comfortable when ever I walk through this area and so i new this is what I wanted to start with. When starting this assignment I first started with a rough draft in person of what it looked like to me. I didn’t focus to much on detail or do much triangulation, i just wanted to start with something. Then I took a picture so I could observe it more and draw my final product later. When drawing my draft picture I realized that I proportioned the sizes and angles a little wrong so i really focused on the position of things for my final product. I started my final product with a middle sidewalk and based most of the positioning off of that. Then i drew the background buildings, not really focusing on the detail of them because those was more of a nature and direction focused approach. Then i drew the trees and light post witch where pretty easy and finally filled in the lines to make things pop that I wanted to pop.

Final Drawing 1

For drawing 2, I decided to draw Hayes Hall because it is such and interesting building and its where I go to do my only in person classes. For this drawing I basically did the same thing as the first drawing. I started with the rough draft observation in person. Then I took a picture of the building for later. I also found that it is easy to draw buildings of of my device instead of in person because i use the picture outline as a scaling tool. Then i finished the final picture at home with more detail. This picture was a lot easier than the first because it was a lot more clear without all of the trees in the way and it was a lot of just straight lines. It was also kind of fun to draw this picture because of the angle I chose. It was kind of difficult to get the exact angle I was looking at but it was still fun experience.
