Poultry Ownership Workshop

Interested in backyard or urban poultry ownership and production? Mark your calendar to attend the 2014 Poultry Ownership Workshop on Tuesday, March 11, 2014.  The workshop is a collaboration between Western Reserve Farm Cooperative and Country Store, Purina Animal Nutrition, OSU Extension, and Portage County Farm Bureau.  The workshop will be held at the Portage County Family and Community Services Meeting Room #101 (705 Oakwood Street, Ravenna, OH  44266).  Registration will begin at 6:30PM, and the program will begin at 7:00PM.  Purina Animal Nutrition Representative, Christa Scarbrough and OSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resource Educator, Heather Neikirk will be the featured presenters.  Topics shared will include “Nutrition for Wholesome Eggs and Healthy Birds” and “Pasture Raised Poultry”.  Reservations are appreciated; please contact Jen at Western Reserve County Store at 330-296-3424 or 1-800-688-4565.   For more information or questions, contact Heather Neikirk at 330-830-7700, ext.116, neikirk.2@osu.edu, or Twitter @neikirkstarkanr.

 

 

Help us spread the word-2014 EAST OHIO Women in Agriculture Conference

The 2014 East Ohio Women in Agriculture Conference will be March 28 in New Philadelphia, OH. This is a joint effort of ANR and FCS educators in the Crossroads EERA (which is comprised of the following counties-Stark , Wayne, Mahoning, Columbiana, Tuscarawas, Holmes, Carroll. Harrison, Jefferson, Coshocton, Muskingum, Guernsey). We would appreciate your help in promoting/sharing this with women in your networks.

Some ideas on how you can help:
1. Email the link http://go.osu.edu/womeninageast to women who have participated in your programs in the past.
2. Print the flyer from http://go.osu.edu/womeninageast and include in a mailing or newsletter. (Registration is available online and the link is provided on the flyer.)
3. Include a link/statement in your email newsletters.
4. Include in radio programs or news columns. (Press release is forthcoming.)

Register TODAY for Feb. 18 Stark County Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification Training

If you hold a Private Pesticide Applicator License in Stark County and your license expires this year, please don’t forget to register for the February 18th recertification session to be held at the R.G. Drage Career and Technical Center.  All Stark County applicators received a mailing in early January with registration information.  Cost is $35 if registered by February 11 and $50 after February 11 or at the door.  Make checks payable to Ohio State University Extension.  If you are from another county and need to register, please contact the Stark County OSU Extension office at 330-830-7700. Ohio State University Extension Stark County and Women Farm present the Women in Food, Agriculture and Network Forum. Join us to connect, cultivate, communicate and collaborate with other local women involved or interested in food, agriculture and environment.
