Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of global awareness is study abroad. Traveling has always been something I enjoyed. I want to study abroad during my time at OSU so that I am able to experience other cultures and see different parts of the world in order to broadened my perspectives and grow my appreciation for diversity. I look forward to finding a place in my schedule over these next four years that I can use for studying abroad.

Original Inquiry
Original inquiry is going to be an important piece of my journey at OSU. Not only will it help me build my credentials for graduate school, but it will also help me learn how to explore my own interests and curiosity. I plan on becoming involved in some type of research as soon as possible. I’d like to start soon so that I can build on the experience throughout all four years of school.

Academic Enrichment
One way I will be involved with academic enrichment is by participating in honors courses and upper level courses. I plan to pursue a rigorous curriculum and work hard to be successful with it. I also plan to take summer courses so that I’m able to fit more into my schedule. I am considering taking courses at Stone Lab this summer or during one of the summers during my four years at OSU.

Leadership Development
One reason I decided to come to OSU was because I wanted to learn how to build leadership skills within a large community. I’ve been able to practice this on a smaller level in classes that involve group, work such as labs. Becoming more comfortable expressing my thoughts and methods with a group of people now will improve my abilities to do so in my career later on. I would also like to practice leadership on a larger scale by choosing a club that I enjoy the most and then pursuing an executive position in that club.

Service Engagement
There are a great number of opportunities to become involved with service engagement at OSU. The service activities that certain clubs offer are one way that I plan to be involved. Outside of that I’d like to work with animals at local shelters or with service dogs. Another thing I’d like to do is volunteer at nearby hospitals so that I can gain experience with patient interaction and become more comfortable in a hospital setting.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. About Me

My name is Bella and I’m a zoology major with a pre-optometry focus. My goals are to do well in my classes, prepare myself for graduate school, and have a lot of fun! Optometry is something that I want to pursue because I’ve had issues with my eye health for my entire life, and all of my experiences have inspired me to help others in the same way that my optometrists helped me.
