Toxicity
Each day, we knowingly or unknowingly come into encounter tox substances in different forms. Such encounter can cause more harm than good than we least expect. There are several substances that cause a toxic effect when one gets exposed to them. The blogs from this site only reviewed a few materials from minimal categories including metals, solvents, plants, animals and many others. Some of the substances covered on this site includes; chlorothalonil, chromium, carbon tetrachloride and tobacco. These materials were covered because, one is more than likely to get exposed to them either in our neighborhoods, occupation, vacation or another means.
Chlorothalonil is classified as a broad spectrum that is used for fungi that affects vegetables, fruits and other food product. Chlorothalonil has other uses such as wood protectant, used in the manufacturing of paint and on ornamental sites. Products that contain Chlorothalonil are normally sold under the Bravo, Echo and Daconil.
Chromium is a lustrous, brittle and hard metal that appears as silver- gray. Chromium is naturally found in the earth’s crust. Chromium is mined as chromite and ore. More industrial companies who are interested in mining chromium ore are now furthering to process it into chromium metal and others. Chromium metal can be categorized into two main forms; Trivalent Chromium (Cr III) and hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI).
Carbon tetrachloride is a manufactured solvent and does not occur naturally. It is a clear, colorless, volatile and very stable chlorinated hydrocarbons. Carbon tetrachloride is used mostly as a solvent for oils and fats, as a refrigerant and as a dry-cleaning agent. When inhaled, carbon tetrachloride can depress the central nervous system and cause degeneration of liver and kidney.
Tobacco is the leaves obtained from the plants that belong in the family of Nicotiana genus and Solanaceae. There are several known species of tobacco but the chief commercial crop is the N. tabacum and the most variant on is the N. rustica. The cured leaves of the tobacco plant are used for several products. Tobacco leaves contain alkaloid nicotine and harmala alkaloids. Tobacco leaves when dried are used for smoking in cigars, cigarettes, pipes, shishas and others. Tobacco can also be consumed as snuff, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco and snus.
