Graduation Honors

In high school, worked hard to graduate with high honors (3.75+ GPA) and the academic honors diploma. I was also able to graduate with the STEM honors diploma after completing extra STEM based courses and an externship at Charles River Laboratories. I was able to see and learn more about doing research in the medical field.

G.O.A.L.S.

The G.O.A.L.S. terms are a way to keep students well rounded and are helpful to learn.

  • Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.
    • To me, this term is important because I am asian. I am involved in the APIDA community and am currently working on helping spread Japanese culture within the Japanese Student Organization. I plan on joining other APIDA organizations and immersing myself in other cultures as well.
  • Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
    • Original inquiry is important to me because I plan on doing research in the future. I have always been interested in research and have also done an externship at a medical research facility. I also plan on participating in creative performances within the organizations that I am a part of.
  • Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
    • Academic enrichment is important since we are always learning. I have planned my classes out for me to be able to graduate on time with open time my 4th year to be able to participate in research, or any advanced classes that I would be interested in taking. I chose biomedical engineering because it aligned with my interests very well and also sounded challenging.
  • Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.
    • Having leadership skills will be very helpful going into the work force after graduating. I plan on growing my leadership skills by participating in different groups and organizations. I am currently a part of the engineering scholars program, ATBD community council, Japanese Student Organization, Society of Women Engineers, Chaarg, and the Medical Innovations Club. As of now, I plan on applying for a leadership position in the Japanese Student Organization for the upcoming year.
  • Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.]
    • The term service engagement is important to me because I participate in community service at my hometown often. Sadly, I have not been able to yet on campus, but I plan on joining an organization that focuses on community service and volunteering within the organizations I am already a part of.

Athletic Awards

During my high school career, I was involved with sports and clubs. I was on the varsity cheerleading team since my freshman year and had the opportunity to become the head captain my senior year. I was also involved with the track team for all four years and was on the pole vault team. I was awarded the 3×4 award for being in a sport for all three seasons during high school and also the purple blanket award for having good academic standing while being on a varsity team.

About Me

Hello, my name is Moe Nakajo and I am pursuing a major in biomedical engineering in the College of Engineering.

On campus, I am currently involved with the Engineering Scholars Program, ATBD community council, JSO (Japanese student organization), SWE (Society of Women in Engineering), and Medical Innovations Club.
During high school, I was a part of the varsity cheerleading and track team for four years. In cheerleading, I had the opportunity to become head captain and gain leadership experience. Academic wise, I had the opportunity to do an externship with Charles River Laboratories for two months during my senior year. I plan on using the skills I learned in high school to help me grow and learn more in my college career.
