G.O.A.L.S.

For the To-do Columbus Assignment I chose to do entertainment as my topic. It was not on the list but I think it fits with festival and events section. I’m looking forward to have fun in Columbus. I really like anything entertainment and I hope to build friendship by going to different event’s with many people.

For my first assignment I went to haunted house with group of my friends. It was the first time I went to a scare house and it turns out I was not good to scary things. My favorite part of this was being able to go somewhere with my friends. Being scared together is much better than alone. From this experience I learned that I won’t be watching scary movie anytime soon. Although, Halloween is soon so I’ll probably be forced to watch it.  I wouldn’t go back because there was a lot of jump scare in the house so if you knew it was coming it would not be scary, but I would recommend to my friends because going anywhere with friends is exciting.

For the second assignment I went to a Chinese restaurants called Yau’s Chinese Bistro. It was the first time I bought food outside of Columbus and I really enjoyed the foods there. My favorite part of this experience was being able to eat something different than Scott. I like the food here but sometimes it gets old, so it was nice to eat somewhere different. I think this counts as entertainment because I love eating. I want to go again but I also want to go to other places to explore. I need to watch out so I don’t spend too much money. I was excited to know that I have places I can go to taste my home food.

For the third assignment I went to Gateway Film Center to watch napping princess. The movie was about a girl who likes sleeping and she saves her dad. It was my first time I went to see a movie in Columbus and I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was that I was able to see the movie with a lot of my friends. I learned that there was somewhere I can go to take a break from study and enjoy. Now I want to watch more films there with my friends. I recommend this place for people who doesn’t want to go far but still want to enjoy. I knew that OSU has some weeks where they host a movie but there are other movies that I want to watch.

Columbus Adventure with Peer Leader Group:For the Columbus Adventure with Peer Leader Group Assignment, our group went to brassica. This is located south of short-north next to the Goodale Park.  This was a Mediterranean restaurant that served the sandwich in a pita bread as shown in the picture. It was only a short ride on the COTA bus and very convenient because it was only a short walk from the bus stop. The food there was also very good and I enjoyed the conversations we had on the way there and at the restaurant. From this experience I was able to know more about the Peer leader group members. Also from this I was able to find a great place to eat at short north. I would recommend this to my friends because the food there was good and I liked the inside as well. I would go back if I had the chance.

Artifacts

I used to play cello in high school. I started when I was in 5th grade and I loved all the experience that this instrument has brought to me. I made new friends through this instrument, I was able to go to school trip because of this instrument, I was able to complete with my peers through this instrument. This instrument made who I was today. Without the connections I made though cello I won’t be engaged with my peers because of my shyness. Without the exciting and fun school trips the orchestra took, I won’t be as close to my friends as I am now.

When I came to OSU for the first time I was not sure what to expect. I thought the classes would be hard and there would not be any leisure time. But then table tennis taught me that taking a break from studying is also a important part of studying. Table tennis made me more relaxed and less anxious about every assignment. It taught me that it is okay to have fun in college and spend time with friends and play. Also table tennis gave me motivation for studying that I can have fun after I’m done. With it I would not be as happy as I am now.

About Me

I am Yuto Nakahata, a first year Humanitarian Engineering Scholars student at Ohio State University. My goal is to study for my undergraduate major as a mechanical engineer while also studying to exercise my interest in engineering and volunteering. I am hard-working and enjoys working in group to achieve the goals and create new idea that I would not have done by myself. I was a member of the National Honors Society and a Summa Cum Lade at my high school. I anticipate to continue my aspiration to volunteer while study diligently to maintain a high GPA. I want to do these not to fulfill the requirement for my scholars program but to help out thous in need of help. My unique interest is that I like not knowing something, because that means I notice something I didn’t know and I can work to find ways to be informed about that topic. I know  that teamwork is important as a engineer. That is why I try to be in student organizations in college including chemecar and Japanese Student Organization. I look to join other clubs by attending the eCouncil Activities Fair, a Involvement fair for College of Engineering . In these clubs I look forward to work hard and contribute to the clubs. These are what caused my interest in engineering because I hope to work in a team to create new ideas to help people in need of help. I want to be able to contribute to the team by the knowledge and the experience I gain by attending the Ohio State University.

The five strength of me in the Strength Insight Reports are:

Harmony, Discipline, Learner, Restorative, and Consistency

Harmony people don’t enjoy conflict, rather, they seek areas of agreement. I connect with this strength because I like to avoid being in a conflict with anyone, but to become friends. This may have cause a weakness in me that I always go the easy way out and miss the opportunity to learn from conflict.

Discipline people are best described by the order they create. I can relate to this because I like to plan and manage time. I like to set time limit and structure my course of action by reasoning. This may cause my weakness that it is hard for me to think outside the box.

Learner people have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. This applies to me because I enjoy learning and gaining experience. I use to be the type of person to sit in the corner but when I graduated from high school I noticed that there are only 4 more years of student life of me left. That is why I want to enjoy every second of college by gaining experience of anything. I would be doing a dance with a dance group which I would have never done when I was in high school.

Restorative people are good at figuring out what is wrong and resolving it. I can connect with this because when I was working I would always try to be as productive as possible, and if my numbers were low I would try to explain what went wrong and what can I do to prevent form happening again. I think this also goes with the harmony that I like to avoid conflict and when there are one I try to figure out how to resolve it.

People that are talented in consistency are people who try to treat everyone same. I can relate to this because I believe that everyone need to be treated equally. Just because I may have had a bad first impression with someone does not give me the right to be mean to him or her. But I also feel little distant with this strength because even if I try my best I am less awkward and friendly toward my friends and people I known for a long time.
