About Me

I am Yuto Nakahata, a first year Humanitarian Engineering Scholars student at Ohio State University. My goal is to study for my undergraduate major as a mechanical engineer while also studying to exercise my interest in engineering and volunteering. I am hard-working and enjoys working in group to achieve the goals and create new idea that I would not have done by myself. I was a member of the National Honors Society and a Summa Cum Lade at my high school. I anticipate to continue my aspiration to volunteer while study diligently to maintain a high GPA. I want to do these not to fulfill the requirement for my scholars program but to help out thous in need of help. My unique interest is that I like not knowing something, because that means I notice something I didn’t know and I can work to find ways to be informed about that topic. I know  that teamwork is important as a engineer. That is why I try to be in student organizations in college including chemecar and Japanese Student Organization. I look to join other clubs by attending the eCouncil Activities Fair, a Involvement fair for College of Engineering . In these clubs I look forward to work hard and contribute to the clubs. These are what caused my interest in engineering because I hope to work in a team to create new ideas to help people in need of help. I want to be able to contribute to the team by the knowledge and the experience I gain by attending the Ohio State University.

The five strength of me in the Strength Insight Reports are:

Harmony, Discipline, Learner, Restorative, and Consistency

Harmony people don’t enjoy conflict, rather, they seek areas of agreement. I connect with this strength because I like to avoid being in a conflict with anyone, but to become friends. This may have cause a weakness in me that I always go the easy way out and miss the opportunity to learn from conflict.

Discipline people are best described by the order they create. I can relate to this because I like to plan and manage time. I like to set time limit and structure my course of action by reasoning. This may cause my weakness that it is hard for me to think outside the box.

Learner people have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. This applies to me because I enjoy learning and gaining experience. I use to be the type of person to sit in the corner but when I graduated from high school I noticed that there are only 4 more years of student life of me left. That is why I want to enjoy every second of college by gaining experience of anything. I would be doing a dance with a dance group which I would have never done when I was in high school.

Restorative people are good at figuring out what is wrong and resolving it. I can connect with this because when I was working I would always try to be as productive as possible, and if my numbers were low I would try to explain what went wrong and what can I do to prevent form happening again. I think this also goes with the harmony that I like to avoid conflict and when there are one I try to figure out how to resolve it.

People that are talented in consistency are people who try to treat everyone same. I can relate to this because I believe that everyone need to be treated equally. Just because I may have had a bad first impression with someone does not give me the right to be mean to him or her. But I also feel little distant with this strength because even if I try my best I am less awkward and friendly toward my friends and people I known for a long time.
