Year in Review

Global Awareness: To develop my global awareness I have taken Spanish courses. In these Spanish courses along with learning the language, I have learned about the culture in different Spanish speaking countries. I do plan on studying abroad in the future, if it is allowed again through the university. I was hoping to travel to Spain this summer to get a deeper immersion into the language I was learning.

Original Inquiry: I have worked as a student research assistant for the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute since freshman year. It has been a great experience and I have learned a lot about the research process. I have learned the value for good solid data and the creativity that goes behind creating a beneficial research project. I plan on continuing to work here and further my research experience.

Academic Enrichment: My honors contract demonstrates a strong commitment to academic enrichment through the courses I’ve chosen. I have picked rigorous and engaging courses that also relate to my future aspirations. I hope to attend medical school and become a physician. Therefore, that is why I chose to be a Neuroscience major as it is related to the field and what I want to pursue. I have also tailored my GE’s to this science related field, for example my history course is science based.

Leadership Development: I am involved in several leadership roles. I am involved in the General Body of Buckeyethon as the events logistics coordinator. This role has helped build my leadership experience by further my communication skills with those of my age group as well as those older and younger than me. It has thought me the importance of patience as well. I was also involved in Mirrors Sophomore Honorary where I served as the Selections Chair. Through this role I learned how to work within a small group setting and display leadership.

Service Engagement: Some service oriented activities I have been involved in is a volunteer at the James Cancer Hospital. At the James I take families to patient rooms and also to talk to their family member’s physicians once surgeries are completed. I am also involved in Buckeyethon. I help run the 24 hour dance marathon we have. During the dance marathon I help run the events and facilitate the marathon overall. Currently, while hospital volunteering has slowed down I have been helping out in the Covid testing Drive-thru. I think community service is very important, especially today when there are so many ways we can help out our community.

G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I plan on studying abroad my freshman or sophomore year summer to develop my appreciation for diversity as well as experience new and unique cultures and things. Additionally, I plan on taking a variety of different coursework throughout my GE’s to also develop my global awareness.
  • Original Inquiry: To me this part of the G.O.A.L.S means to take part in research that engages you. For this goal, I plan on applying to various psychology research labs this upcoming semester.
  • Academic Enrichment: I plan on pursuing a degree in neuroscience, which will help me get to my future aspirations of going to medical school. I plan on taking honors classes through my GE’s to maintain the rigorous courses and keep me engaged. Additionally, I must plan to take the medical school pre-requisites in my schedule projection.
  • Leadership Development: I plan on working toward establishing positions of leadership in the clubs I am involved in such as, Buckeyethon and U.N.O.O. I plan on getting more involved in these clubs and the university in general this upcoming semester.
  • Service Engagement: I plan on engaging with my community through community service through UNOO and Buckeyethon so far this semester. Additionally, I plan on applying to volunteer at the Wexner Medical Center this semester. These service involvements will help my understanding of a social issue or problem by widening my outlook on life. They will allow to me see and consider different perspectives by helping a variety of different people.
