Do.

My Do portion of this assignment was experiencing COSI for the first time in downtown Columbus. COSI is a popular science museum and research center in Columbus and although most of my friends have heard of it, being from Connecticut I was unfamiliar with the place. The first aspects that caught my eye was the size of the center as a whole as well as a unicycle on a  tightrope lining the ceiling up above. Although the area was mainly filled with adults and their children, my friends and I had a great time exploring the various exhibits throughout the museum. My personal favorite exhibit was the technology room where there were a number of gadgets and electronics to fiddle and work with.

Go.

For my Go portion of this project, I visited the North Market downtown for the first time with a few friends. Right away, the bustling people, various noises, and sweet aromas of food flooded my senses. Once I took in my surroundings as a whole, I noticed the interesting layout of the crossed ceiling bars up above and the numerous food areas stationed throughout the area. Ranging from pasta to donuts to pizza, each section had a different food theme and type. For lunch I bought a tasty pasta dish with spicy tomato sauce and my friends and I ventured upstairs to eat our meal. The picture below highlights my view of the market from up above and summarizes the busy atmosphere.

Year in Review

Over the past year I have evolved as an individual in more ways than I believed I could in a such a short period of time. Coming to college from CT 10 hours away was nerve wrecking. I was worried about having to fend for myself as an adult and getting homesick right away. Luckily health science scholars introduced me to an inviting community from the get go. I found myself adjusting to the college lifestyle, participating in a number health science scholars events, learning how to put effort into my academics and study hard, and becoming friends with some of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. My first year of college and as a health science scholar, has presented me with endless opportunities making Ohio State my home away from home. I only hope to become involved in more upcoming service events and overall grow as a person during my second year as part of the program.

Volunteering on the 11th floor (surgical and medical intensive care unit) at The James Cancer Hospital has been my most memorable service experience this year. Being involved and talking to the families of the patients for four hours a day every week brought a sense of purpose to my time spent here. Whether it was consoling a family member, providing someone with the proper information about their loved one, or escorting individuals to the correct patient room, I felt as though I had a real place outside that waiting room. As someone who loves to interact with new people each day, this experience certainly benefited myself in this aspect. Although through this year I have changed my career aspiration from working in the medical field to a chemical engineer, I valued this volunteer experience tremendously. I will be applying to volunteer at the James next semester as well and I look forward to what the year has to offer!

My first semester at the Ohio State University was certainly a whirlwind of emotions and experiences. I thank the Health Science Scholars program which without, I would not have a clear idea of my career path today. Throughout the HSS seminar, a variety of assignments were completed which combined into the strategic life plan. The strategic life plan has given me an understanding about my plan for the future and how to manage my time efficiently. Meeting with my professor for office hours familiarized me in utilizing the resources around me while making a professional resume has given me a peek into the real world and job interviews. Lastly, the personal health and wellness assignment has opened up new ways I can cope with stress as well as improve my study habits.

Over the past few months, I have attended a wide variety of HSS events and been introduced to all types of people. I have this program to thank for meeting some of my best friends as well whom share the same interests as I. Through volunteering at the James and my involvement in the pre med club, I am confident in my plan to become an engineer and go on to medical school. HSS has provided me with an excess of opportunities ranging from the career fair to service hours. It is truly amazing to be a part of such a diverse community and I look forward to my time in the future as a part of HSS.

Eat.

Exploring the North Market for the first time was certainly a great experience. The highlight of my time here was buying and trying out a variety of flavored macaroons for the first time. I have heard from numerous people, especially my sister, raving about how good they were and decided it was time to listen to this advice. It was a hard decision but I ultimately decided that from the six unique flavors, pistachio was my favorite. I will certainly be trying out new flavors of macaroons in the future.

About Me

10556369_927050820655318_2090664352141097755_nMy name is Sangeetha Naidu and I am from a small town in Connecticut called New Fairfield. During high school I enjoyed my time playing soccer, being involved with Relay for Life, and the Future Business Leaders of America. Being an out of state, I was quite nervous to be coming to a huge school like Ohio State. However, I have loved every moment of the college experience so far. I am currently undecided but I am looking to major in engineering. Lastly, I hope to spend my time here at OSU succeeding both academically and socially, and enjoying the next four years to the best of my possibility!
