Module 7

Module 7 was one of the most important modules in the class. This module covered building and sustaining motivation. Having motivation is very important for me because I have a tendency to procrastinate. The most important things that I learned in this module are the importance of sleep, how to manage stress, and to take breaks and relax. Sleep is more important than most people think. Sleep is an essential part of a person’s day and getting good sleep can help improve memory, cognition, and stress. How to deal with stress is another thing that I learned in this module. Everyone deals with stressors in their day-to-day life. It is essential to learn how to cope and overcome these stressors. One of my favorite new ways to de-stress is to meditate. I have the meditation app waking up on my phone and it really helps me deal with stressors throughout the day. Another key thing I learned in this module is to take breaks often and relax. Taking frequent breaks makes me more relaxed and makes me more productive overall than when I try to cram everything without breaks.

Module 6

This article taught me a lot about writing in college. Finding a reputable article is critical for any paper you write in college. This module has tough me many things about searching and researching for a topic.  One of the most interesting things I learned about was how to use Boolean logic. Boolean allows you to retrieve more precise search results. It usefull when you have a very complicated research question and are looking for very specific data or sources. One other part that this module touched on was how to preform scholarly searches. Peer-reviewed academic journal sources are often required for research papers in college. Two of my favorite search tools for scholarly sources are Google Scholar and OSU Libraries search tool. These search tools make searching for peer-reviewed journals relatively easy. One important time-consuming part of the college paper writing process is the works cited page.  A tool that I use for almost every paper is a free citation generator called Easy Bib. Easy Bib is very easy to use and will give you a citation in MLA or APA. All you have to do is put in the websites ulr or the journal’s joi number and the generator will make a citation for you.

Module 5

This module had a great review of how to take notes for class. The module had many great tips and tricks on how to take effective notes. One of my favorite way to take notes is the outline method. I make an outline using the most important terms and aspects of what is being said in class. I put the main topic on the top and write bullet points on the main ideas and takeaways from the lecture. This module also had great information on how to pay attention and take useful notes. I learned active listening skills and how to look for signal words and phrases.  In addition, this module contained many helpful resources. One of my favorite resources is Kahn Academy. Kahn Academy is a free online resource that can be very helpful when you are having trouble with a class. I used Kahn Academy to help me get through Calculus my freshman year. Kahn Academy is filled with instructional videos taught by real professors.

Module 4

One of the most useful things that I have learned in this module is how memory works and the role of memorization in learning. I learned about the difference between short term memory and long term memory. Short term memory involves information being captured at that moment and is very limited. This is why it is easy to forget new things. In order to remember information long term, we need to store it to our long term memory. According to the Remembering Course Materials article, we begin to start forgetting data within 30 seconds of not using it. In order to retain information, a person has to either use the information or store it into their long term memory. There are many ways to store information to long term memory, but my favorites are linking the information to my everyday life and using visual imagery. Another great way to remember information is to use mnemonics. My favorite way to do this is to use acronyms.  One acronym that I will always remember from math class is PEMDAS. PEMDAS is an acronym used in math to describe the order of operations. PEMDAS stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction.

Module 2

Hello Everyone,

I think the most useful thing I learned in module 2 is how to use Google Sheets. Google Sheets is a free spreadsheet program much like Microsoft excel.  Spreadsheets are very useful for organizing data like sales and dates and times. Many businesses use spreadsheets to calculate profits and expenses. I have already created a google sheet for my credit card spending this week. Another thing I learned from this modules is how to deal with lazy group members. Most group problems stem from a lack of communication and clear expectations.

One thing that I will practice in the future is time management. The time management assessment helped me get into perspective where I am at it showed me my strengths and weaknesses. The time management assessment gives me a benchmark to compare my productivity and time management. The assessment helped me identify what I am good at and what I need to work on to be more productive. Time management is a very important skill in life and is something that will follow me around my entire life. Time management is crucial to performance in productivity in almost any aspect of my life.
