In 2024, we are transitioning to a new Quality Assurance format for our Junior Fair exhibitors. We are excited to utilize a curriculum developed in Lorain County called “Hoof to Table Quality Assurance”. It is a QA Simulation where each youth (parents can go along) receives a scenario and goes through a variety of hands-on stations related to the Good Production Practices (GPPs). EVERY GPP, EVERY YEAR. Since implementing this, they’ve seen increased understanding of QA principles and improved project record keeping. Most youth go through the self-paced simulation in about an hour.
The simulation has 12 stations, and we need at least one trained facilitator at each station. Which means we need more facilitators than we currently have! Facilitators don’t have to be 4-H volunteers – they could be parents, grandparents, committee volunteers, club volunteers, Senior Fair Board members, commodity group reps, etc. – but they do have to complete a two-hour self-paced online training by March 15. Once certified, certification is good for three years. We have three in-person sessions each year, I would hope most members of the team would help with two. 2024 QA Dates are: April 3, April 15, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. I would ask volunteers to arrive by 5:30 p.m.
If interested, please contact Jamie (mcconnell.210@osu.edu, 740-454-0144) by December 15 so she can submit your name for the training.
