Use “My 4-H Career Record Book” to Track Your 4-H Activities

As we gear up for another year , I want to share a great resource that is available to our families to help you track a member’s involvement in 4-H. My 4-H Career Record Book, which is available on our website under 4-H Youth Development>Member Resources, is designed to help members track all of the activities they participate in on an annual basis – including project work, club offices, teen leadership opportunities, community service projects, awards and much more!

It’s never too early to begin planning for life after high school and life after being a 4-H member! Keeping track of your 4-H activities and achievements can help you be better prepared for job, college and scholarship applications. It’s much easier to keep track as things happen than to try and remember everything you’ve done as a senior in high school.

If you are in high school, be sure to check out other local resources available to you – including Scholarship Central at the Muskingum County Community Foundation. They have a wonderful database of local scholarship opportunities. Contact Scholarship Central at 740-454-0144, check out How to Pay for College or visit their office at 534 Putnam Avenue, Zanesville.

Enrolling in the Right 4-H Poultry Project

If you are planning to enroll in a 4-H poultry project this year, be sure to enroll in the correct project for the breed/type of birds you are planning to exhibit at the Muskingum County Fair.

Our Deciding What 4-H Poultry Project to Take fact sheet can help! Be sure to match your breed/type of birds up with the correct fair class and the corresponding 4-H project. If you do not have birds yet, be sure to pay close attention to acceptable breeds for the project a member enrolls in. Birds registered in a fair class that does not match the 4-H project a youth enrolled in cannot be exhibited at the fair.

If you have any questions, please contact our office!

Horse Safety and Ethics Training

All first-time horse project participants must participate in the Horse Safety and Ethics Training Program with a parent or guardian before they can begin riding their horse at 4-H activities.  There are two opportunities to attend the program: March 12 and March 29 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. each evening at the Extension Office.

Call the Extension Office to pre-register. Please be on time. No late admittance allowed.  Both parent/guardian and youth must read 191R Horses, Safety and You prior to attending the program and bring the book with them to the program. Volunteers should purchase this book with their book order so the youth have time to read it with a parent prior to the program.
