Monday, November 18, 2019 Press Release

Zanesville, OH–We have discussed the Master Gardener program on many occasions lately because we were accepting new applications for the upcoming 2020 training class. We also just held the annual Master Gardener Banquet last week and were pleased to have Lori Swihart down from Licking County to deliver a presentation on how plants communicate. What comes as a surprise to many people is that it is possible for one tree to scavenge nutrients and supply those nutrients to other trees and plants that are nearby through roots and fungi in the soil. There is more going on underfoot in a forest than we often realize.

Governor DeWine announced H2Ohio Water Quality Plan last week.  This is part of the continued on-going conversation about water quality issues in Ohio and the role that we all play in providing safe drinking water.  In Extension, we are following this development closely as it ties in closely with the challenge of managing phosphorus runoff.  Many partners across the state of Ohio will be involved in future efforts.  The H2Ohio announcement can be found here.

Save the date this winter for an Ohio Beef Cow/Calf Workshop and Ohio Beef Cattle Nutrition and Management School. OSU Extension will be offering two different events on January 30 and February 13.
