It has officially been one month and eight days since I began living at THE Ohio State University. The fluorescent light from the Ohio Stadium shining into my eyes every night never gets old. Pizza from Mother Morrill on the weekends shines like a light at the end of the tunnel, and every week, the COVID test takes less and less time. Here’s what I’ve learned.

In class, I have learned that my chemistry professor’s dog’s name is Ruthie, short for Ruthenium. I have learned that my precalculus professor is not good at arithmetic (his own words, not mine), and that my Spanish professor is incredibly sweet. I’ve also learned some academic stuff along the way, but that’s neither here nor there.

Classes are way tougher than high school. Duh. That means I have had to find new ways to study. Sharing a common space with my roommates has surprisingly been the most effective way for me to get work done. The high school mentality of working around other people is still ingrained in my mind. I have learned that I am a very “people orientated” person. Also, during high school I could never do work past dinner time; however, now I find myself doing work at nine or ten o’clock most evenings.

The biggest struggle for me has been keeping track of all my work. In the beginning, I constantly felt like I was behind on something or missing an assignment. Over the past few weeks, I have fine-tuned a system of keeping a planner with color codes in it, and having a daily to do list. Checking things off of the little white board in my room gives my a small boost of serotonin to keep me going throughout the day.

Overall, I have achieved many things, new friends being the most forefront in my mind. I’m so lucky to not only get along with all my roommates, but actually becoming close friends with them. Becoming friends with some of the fellas down the hall has also been a great achievement, and meeting my significant other has made me the happiest I’ve been in a while.
