Assessment Reports Now in CarmenWiki

I have recently moved all Assessment Reports, including the recent LibQUAL survey summaries, to CarmenWiki. Please note: I have restricted this page to active OSU Libraries faculty and staff, thus it is necessary to login to CarmenWiki first to view this page. It will not appear in the list of assessment pages if you are not logged in. ( i.e. you won’t see it!)

If the link above isn’t working for you, and you are logged in to CarmenWiki, here’s the path to the Assessment Reports page:

Dashboard > University Libraries > Home > Projects > Assessment Projects > Completed Assessment Projects (Includes Assessment Reports) > Assessment Reports…

Dashboards Now Available

I’ve been working to update the OSU Libraries’ assessment related webpages over the last few days and am now happy to share the availability of three MIS dashboards for:

These dashboards aggregate data the Libraries collects for its annual ARL Statistics and are updated quarterly.

My hope for developing and sharing dashboards is to make  data more readily accessible to library faculty and staff for decision-making. If you are interested in creating a dashboard for your department, division, or project, please contact me to discuss your needs.

Institutional Research Consultants – Search Task Study

Jan Upton, President of Institutional Research Consultants presented the findings of her firm’s Search Task Study during the Libraries’ AdminPlus meeting this morning. Takeaways for IRC’s 24 interviews with  OSU faculty and graduate students included:

  •  63% of participants reported they visited library.osu.edu daily or “almost daily.”
  • 76% of participants searches were successful. More than 62% of searches were accomplished within 5 minutes.
  • Most participants related examples of unsuccessful searches at some previous point, suggesting that nearly everyone is going to have a “bad” online search experience occasionally.
  • Overall the probability of a successful search was high.

A copy of the full report, with an executive summary is available via the Libraries’ Assessment Reports page in CarmenWiki. Please note this page is restricted to OSU Libraries faculty and staff, meaning it is necessary to login to CarmenWiki to view this page.

Visualizing Library Data

For some time now I have had an interest in visualizing library data, as means to spice up library assessment and make library assessment data more readily available. In a few weeks I will be joining Jeremy Buhler, Assessment Librarian at the University of British Columbia Library, and Rachel Lewellen, Assessment Librarian, UMass Amherst Libraries to present Tableau Unleashed, Visualizing Library Data at the 2014 Library Assessment Conference in Seattle, Washington. For a preview of one of the OSU Libraries’ data-visualizations that will be shared during this presentation  check out the OSU Libraries Teaching & Learning Dashboard
