Year in Review

My second year at The Ohio State University has been exciting and busy. I have continued my business degree with an economics specialization, but I also decided to minor in nonprofit studies through the John Glenn School of Public Affairs. I have further developed my passion for giving back to my community as a consultant for nonprofits through the student organization SCNO, Students Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations. Second semester, I became a project manager for SCNO which has provided me continued leadership and communications skills. I look forward to my remaining years in undergrad, as well as in law school, so that I may be able to further give back to my community in many different capacities.

I also became a teaching assistant this year for BUSMGT 2320, a business statistics course in the Fisher College of Business. I really enjoyed taking the class last semester and, once job openings for TAs became available, I knew I wanted to apply. I have truly enjoyed my work this semester helping students grasp the concepts as well as seeing the other side – teaching.

For the big Michigan vs. Ohio State football game, my best friend, who happens to go to University of Michigan, came down to Columbus to watch the game with me at the Shoe. That was a great time; Farrah and I made signs to show at College Gameday, but we actually made it onto local Detroit television that morning.

In February, I attended BuckeyeThon with the Undergraduate Business Women’s Association, after having been on their team’s fundraising committee. As a team, we raised over $15,000! I had an amazing time with the kids and dancing ridiculously (I am a horrible dancer).

Artifact – BuckeyeThon 2016

Joining the Undergraduate Business Women’s Association’s BuckeyeThon Committee has given me invaluable leadership, networking, and marketing experience at this early stage in my collegiate career. I used my network to secure two corporate sponsors for our team, both donations totaling $2,500. I became a leader to our other members; my passion for the cause and to have an impact on these kids’ lives showed in my fundraising, and our other dancers followed suit. I also became a better group member while developing a marketing strategy to recruit dancers and to fundraise. Our team tank top encapsulates what we accomplished as a committee and team; raising over ten thousand dollars for the kids and having a great time during the dance marathon.

The red BuckeyeThon t-shirt represents the community that is built during the two twelve hour shifts. During the fun times and the many hours when we think our feet are going to fall off, the BuckeyThon community stands together to make a difference. Hearing the inspiring stories of the kids and their families and friends was the highlight of my day. I look forward to this time next year when I can show off my new and improved dance moves and maybe be half as good as the kids are.

About Me

Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to draw valuable knowledge from my personal experiences and the experiences of those around me. Growing up in suburban Washington D.C., I was immersed in the world of this nation’s government, as well as international politics and relations. The multicultural area of D.C. provided me with the luxury of learning firsthand about the world’s diversity. Living in suburban Detroit the past four years, I have learned about global business, such as the car industry, and the growing importance of urban planning and revival. While I am proud of my high school academic success, these daily lessons that have broadened my world view continue to lead me into my collegiate and professional life. My interests range from the aforementioned international economics and business to basically anything sports related. I participated in my high school’s senior tradition of powder puff football against a rival school; the preparation consisted of two hour practices, five days a week for two months. I will continue to support Ohio State football and my Detroit Tigers, and I look forward to my collegiate career in international business and French. While gaining knowledge of my intended field in the classroom, I will increase my understanding of globalization through study abroad and internships. My ultimate professional goal is to work at the United Nations to help advance developing countries or to submerge myself in a multinational corporation, putting my knowledge of global business to use.
