Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: In order to complete this step in the process, I plan to study abroad in order to gain a more specific and unique knowledge of a culture different than my own, along with experiencing a sense of diversity that may not be offered to me in my home town, or at my university. I hope to be involved in something related to medicine and research in a third world country. This would be so drastically different than what I have experienced so far in my life, and would really change my perspective.
  • Original Inquiry: I plan on becoming involved in a lab or two while on campus. This would allow me to expand my knowledge in the research field while providing experience that will help further my career on a Pre PhD path. I hope to becoming involved in labs relating to neuronal genetics, mental diseases and disorders, or a genetics lab. I also hope to take as many honor courses as I can in order to gain a deeper understanding of the topics that are covered.
  • Academic Enrichment: To enhance this I hope to always have the opportunity to take classes and to learn. Whether that be taking online classes with OSU or becoming enrolled in another university over the summer and taking classes there. This would also my course work to be continued all of the time and to enhance all that I have been exposed to. Out side of the classroom I hope to take these class experiences to gain a spot in a lab or in an internship, this would allow me to apply all that I have learned in the real world.
  • Leadership Development: As a student-athlete my leadership skills will be more refined to due my role on the rowing team as a coxswain. I hope to continue to be apart of this program which will tremendously help with my leadership and confidence skills. By using my experience as a leader it will hopefully give me other opportunities to be in a leadership position, which would in turn allow me to do more in the future.
  • Service Engagement: I hope to find a student organization or service project while at OSU that I am truly passionate about so that I can give back to the community and to those around me. I believe in service over self but just need to find the right place to dedicate my time and resources to. I will be able to look into the different types of service through the involvement fair, greek life, and many other programs that are dedicated to serving others. I hope some of the service that I do will be abroad, this would also touch on some of the other GOALS mentioned above.

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements.
