G.O.A.L.S.

Global awareness is a quality in which I value greatly and have worked to strengthen throughout my life. With a strong familial connection to France, I have taken great interest in the French language and its rich culture. I have joined the French Club here at OSU and hope to broaden my global understanding through enrolling in courses discussing the French language and culture. Another opportunity I have considered in regards to strengthening my global awareness are study abroad programs. Study abroad programs allow students to be immersed fully into the cultures of different regions around the world, which in turn cultivates their appreciation for the diversity throughout the globe. Luckily, OSU offers a vast array of study abroad programs to choose from.

Ohio State University offers students countless opportunities to engage in original inquiry. Participating in career fairs in the future will allow me to familiarize myself with internship and job opportunities that will develop my work experience and allow me to discover my true interests. I also plan on building good relationships with professors in my field to potentially work with them on their research. Columbus also happens to be an optimal area for internship opportunities in my field, for instance, interning at the Ohio Statehouse. I have also heavily considered the Washington Academic Internship Program.

As an honors student, I am held to a high academic standard. In order to achieve a rigorous schedule, I am currently taking classes that will advance my knowledge in more than just my field of interest. As a political science student, math courses are not considered precedents and while mathematics is not my strong suit, I am currently enrolled in a calculus course. I am also currently partaking in an honors sociology course and plan on enrolling in even more honors courses next semester. I am considering minoring in the French language and culture which will provide a nice base for my interest in international affairs.

As a student-athlete at the Ohio State University, I have a unique opportunity to practice proper leadership skills with my teammates. Through leading by example and offering my teammates a helping hand in time of need, I am not only developing good skills for my future, but developing skills that can be transferred to the classroom. My leadership skills also have the ability to be strengthened through involvement in student organizations and potentially running for leadership positions within clubs. I would describe my leadership style as pacesetting – a leader by example.

Many of the student organizations on campus allow students to get involved in service-oriented work. For instance, I have signed up for the Buckeyes of Ronald McDonald House Charities which offers many activities that engage in service for the Columbus community. I have also enrolled in UNICEF at OSU which not only contributes to my global awareness and service engagement, but also provides a good insight to global politics which is applicable to my major. As I grow more knowledgeable of the organizations and other opportunities available on campus, I can become more involved and strengthen my service portfolio.
