Year in Review
To say label the first year of college as challenging is an understatement. A new level of freedom is acquired but with that comes responsibility, and a lot of it. There’s no one telling you to go to class or not to spend all of your swipes on junk food. For the first time in years, I was forced to make friends as I threw myself into numerous organizations and social situations. The structure of college classes and the type of learning that is expected had me questioning if I ever truly learned how to study. This led to frustration and a lot of trial and error which is still being manipulated to date. But this knowledge is most accessible by experience. As a freshman I wish that I sought out help for studying sooner and realized that all other freshman were in the same position as I was. I will accumulate these experiences as each one continues to shape me into a more well-rounded scholar, leader, and person in general.
G.O.A.L.S.
[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. - Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.
- Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
- Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
- Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.
- Service Engagement: For my first year, service looked very different with each opportunity I received. I volunteered my time at a local elementary school, painting shapes on the sidewalk, at COSI, putting packages together for students across the country, and at an NFL camp, signing children in for the day. Each new experience allowed for a humbling sense of helpfulness and completion. One of easiest and most rewarding days is community commitment day, where students are rallied from all over campus to disperse among the community and give back to the city in which we call our home. This given time is not only a huge blessing for those we help but also a learning opportunity for all involved. Whether it’s a new trait of appreciation for the matter, there is always something to gain from giving back.

About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Danielle Mueller, but most people call me Dani, and I am from Centerville, Ohio (which is near Dayton). In high school, I played lacrosse and was involved in organizations such as BOLD (building our lives drug-free), STAND (stop tobacco and nicotine dependence), peer tutoring, Octagon Club, and various other service activities! In high school I also held two formal jobs, a receptionist at a salon and a sales associate/key holder at a women’s store, and babysat/nannied whenever possible. Currently, I am an Exercise Science major on the Pre-Physical Therapy track. This semester I plan to join the Exercise Science club at OSU as well as CRU, a Christian organization on campus. A little bit more about me is that I love traveling and learning about new cultures! Also, I have a pet cat, Charlie, but I love dogs as well, especially big dogs and I am always up for coffee, shopping, ice cream or a combination of the three. Lastly, I’ve been a buckeye fan since birth so I love watching football and I look forward to attending many sporting events on campus as well as exploring all that Columbus has to offer!
