Migration Studies Scholars at Ohio State at 2018 Meet and Greet!

About 30 scholars, including established and new faculty. graduate students and post doctoral researchers joined the MSWG for its 2018 Meet and Greet event on 8/29. Thanks to a generous donation by the Migration, Mobility and Immobility Discovery Theme (MMI), attendees were able to get to know each other and network while enjoying tasty treats. Discussions ranging from historical to contemporary, multiple world regions, social sciences and humanities filled the afternoon. The event proved a great way to ring in the new academic year with an eye toward new and growing projects and collaborations. We look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events and the Spring Symposium.

The event was co-sponsored by the MMI. We look forward to future collaborations between our groups, and with scholars around campus.

We invite you to join us for OSU’s 2nd Migration Studies Symposium on March 2nd (9:45-5pm), organized by the Migration Studies Working Group. We are finalizing our preparations and hope to see many of you there. This interdisciplinary event brings together scholars and community organizations working on migration-related issues and with migrant communities.
 
The symposium will be held at Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, Eisner Seminar Room, 1813 N High St, Columbus, OH 43210, and our event includes a tour of the current exhibition on political cartoons about immigration.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: 2nd Annual OSU Migration Studies Symposium “WALLS AND PASSAGES”

The Migration Studies Working Group invites OSU graduate students and faculty, as well as Columbus-based community organizations and teachers, to send a proposal for a paper, or for a roundtable or interactive workshop, for our second annual Migration Studies Symposium, a full day event on Friday, March 2, 2018. Interventions may directly or indirectly connect to the theme “Walls and Passages”; we are interested in a variety of interpretations of and responses to this phrase. This interdisciplinary symposium will offer a forum for sharing and discussing a range of current work connected with migration experiences and migration studies. In curating this event, we welcome opportunities to collaborate and are especially interested in creating space for conversations that bridge community building, advocacy, teaching, and scholarly work.
