The primary goal of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) program is to prepare M.S. in Nursing graduates to provide advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute, critical and chronic health conditions, including the delivery of acute care services. The AG-ACNP practices in any setting in which patient care requirements include complex monitoring and therapies, high-intensity nursing intervention, or continuous nursing vigilance within the range of high-acuity care. Coursework, clinical experience, and research utilization provide students with the knowledge, values and skills necessary for advanced practice nursing roles. In order to be eligible for Acute Care nurse practitioner certification, students must have a minimum of one year of full-time current work experience in an acute care and/or critical care setting. M.S. in Nursing graduates of the program are eligible for certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AG-ACNPs).
