The Master of Science in Nursing specialty track for Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) prepares M.S. in Nursing graduates to be primary care providers, i.e., nurses in advanced practice who provide care for individuals with common acute and chronic health problems. The scope of practice for an FNP includes a focus on wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention. FNP’s also diagnose illness, order diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and provide patient education for all the illnesses seen in primary care across the lifespan. Graduates of the specialty are eligible for certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
