Pride (2019)

3D render made in Cinema4D

The idea of the figures in the image comes from human made machines and software, such as artificial intelligence, one day potentially surpassing the intellectual abilities of their human creators. They are essentially gods created by humans which only have an interest in playing their role as a god.

Watching You Watching Me (Rough Draft)

Watching You Watching Me

For this project, I currently have 72 unique pictures (90 total) in a collage with the majority of them darkened in photoshop to create the shape of an eye. This way the picture is looking at you as you look at it, much like the process of looking directly at a security camera and taking picture of it.

The concept and message from this project comes from the idea of our society becoming increasingly Orwellian, especially in the case of surveillance. By capturing a wide variety of security cameras all around Columbus I hope to highlight how we should be aware that more often than not, we are being watched while in a public space.

Project 3 Progress Report – Watching You Watching Me

For Project 3, I am doing a typography where I am going to take a straight head on picture of 100+ surveillance cameras (such as security cameras or traffic cameras).

The concept and message from this project comes from the idea of our society becoming increasingly Orwellian, especially in the case of surveillance. By capturing a wide variety of security cameras all around Columbus I hope to highlight how we should be aware that more often than not, we are being watched while in a public space.

The criteria for these photos will be that it is a direct head on picture of a surveillance camera in the middle of the frame and facing me (and likely recording me) as I take a picture of it. The depth of field should be fairly shallow for some of the pictures with depth but that won’t be relevant for many of these as most security cameras are close to a flat wall behind them, but the main focus of every photo should be the cameras. The cameras themselves should take up a significant amount of space in the frame as well, preferably taking up about 1/9 of the frame on average.

So far I have 37 available images as seen below, some of which I will likely not include in the final project as they might not quite meet the criteria for the photos I would like to use.
