Welcome to my Honors & Scholars e-Portfolio

Hey everyone! I am Alexander Morales, but I usually go by Alex. I am an Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship scholar at The Ohio State University. I am majoring in electrical engineering due to my experiences from previous internships and passion for technology. This passion grew as I built a computer with my cousin a few years back. I also have an interest in psychology and have considered a minor in it. After finishing my undergrad studies I plan on entering the field and returning to attain my Masters of Business Administration after 2 years. I am currently an intern over the summer at Rockwell Automation, slightly out of Cleveland, Ohio.

Outside of the classroom and work environment, I played baseball growing up. I’m a very simple person and like to try new places to eat with my friends. I am looking forward to meeting a variety of people on campus from different backgrounds and opening up my network. See you on campus!

ICE Scholars Business Model Canvas

Attached above is a link to my business model canvas project, in paper and presentation format, done in my ICE scholars class. This business model canvas allowed for use to mimic the process of a startup and learn these early stages. My team had the idea of creating an ideal portable longboard. Longboards are prevalent on campus but have one big problem, they are annoying to carry. Longboard riders often have to carry their board when they walk into buildings and don’t have a specific place for it in class. Our design would solve this problem and give longboarders a better experience overall for portability, while maintaining the feel of riding the board.

As we went throughout the process we surveyed longboarders to see if it was a problem to them. Our assumption turned out to be right and this was proved even when validating with longboarders in clubs at other colleges. Close to two-thirds of our customers claimed they would buy a more portable design that rides like a normal longboard. We also found a price point at roughly $150 and above to be reasonable for our design. Our next stages were to finalize a design, secure funding, prototype our design, and finding a means of distribution.

In the future I hope to have my own startup. I am not sure what exact field quite yet, but I am working toward having a solid foundation for a startup by graduation.
