Reflection #1

For my Academic Credit I went to the Graduate and Professional Fair. This was on September 18th and 19th in the first floor of the Union. The Great hall was filled with different vendors of graduate and professional schools who were there to inform students of their many options post college. This event was designed for Seniors and Post Grads but it was relevant for students like me to Get a feel for what life is going to look like after college. This event related to International Affairs because It tied together many international businesses, schools, programs, and made them very accessible to OSU students who are interested in going in to the international world post college. It was a first hand look at what an International Affairs Scholars could do with their life in the professional world.  It was very intriguing to see the many options you have as a post graduate at OSU and the many routes of life you can take. I looked at service trips post graduation, and what It would look like to travel and do good words. I saw many graduate schools and options to continue schooling, and also for the medicine school students what their routes look like after graduation. It was very informative and gave me insight to what my life could look like post graduation and I have never really thought of anything besides getting a full time job, giving a new perspective to it. After going to the event I found myself with many questions. What did I feel called to do after college? What was a popular route for someone with the same major as me? What would it look like on a resume if I took a year off of work with a travel and serve program? What would be the next steps for me as a sophomore? I think after attending this event its clear I want to definitely take some time off and travel, and see the world but also incorporating an element of serving and giving back to under privileged communities. I looked at the employers and schooling and I don’t think I would want to go to school longer, just because I am not a school person and I’d rather be out working in my field, although going to a few more years of school are beneficial because when you do enter the work force your pay vastly surpasses that of an under graduate student. So after attending this event I think I would consider it more so then when I first walked in to the event. I loved how welcoming and helpful the schools and programs were and how they did a great job still informing me and making me feel wanted only as a sophomore in college and I didn’t expect that to happen. Overall I enjoyed the event vastly and would definately recommend it to a friend, it was engaging, informative, resourceful, and gave insights to each student at Ohio States Universities future and how they could help with it.

Artifacts

The ClockTower is an important OSU artifact to me, because with this new landmark it represents to me, the beginning my college experience. As part of the 2017 class we were incoming freshman the same time this tower went up, and will signify our start of our college journeys throughout the next four years.
