Year in Review

Looking back on my first year at Ohio State, I have had a fantastic time. I am most appreciative of the experience I had in the International Affairs Scholars program as I made lifelong friends. I am excited to be on the Leadership Council for IA next year! Coming into OSU, I was initially worried about making friends and if I would do well academically. But thankfully, IA took care of the making friends part and I absolutely love my major (Early Childhood Education). I have always wanted to be a teacher, and this semester I was in a kindergarten classroom and it was the best experience I have had at Ohio State. I declared my minor in Political Science, and will be studying my summer semester at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. I can’t wait for where next year takes me!

FEEP

This semester, I participated in FEEP (First-Year Educational Experience Program) at OSU. I am an Early Childhood Education major, and was placed in a kindergarten classroom at Como Elementary School in Columbus City Schools. I had an absolutely amazing time, and it was extremely beneficial for me to get even more field experience. I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember, and the time I had at Como only reinforced what I already knew – that I have a passion for teaching. I made a strong connection with my cooperating professional, the other professionals at the school, and students. I am so sad to be leaving them soon! Attached is one of my students “morning messages”.

Over fall break, I joined a small group of other International Affairs Scholars on a trip to Canada. We visited historical museums such as the Royal Ontario Museum and the Aga Khan Museum. I made a solid group of friends, and we enjoyed shopping at Toronto’s Eaton Mall and taste testing gelato at Kensington Market. We strolled through the elaborate rooms in Casa Loma and rubbed the sleep out of our eyes while looking out over Niagara Falls. I cried in an elevator while going up the CN Tower because I am extremely scared of heights – but I conquered my fear for the view. Overall, I came back to Ohio State with new friends, a new experience, and a new found happiness.
