Meeting with Andréa Severson

Coming into Ohio State just a few months ago, I thought I knew what I wanted to do but I was unaware of what path to take to get there. It was for this reason that I came into school as an Exploratory Major. I also knew that I might find that my passions were not what I thought they would be. So, I sat in lecture after lecture listening to all of the different majors offered here at The Ohio State University. With so many options, I knew I needed to start making my way through them to narrow them down. I met with many advisors within different colleges but one stuck out the most. Andréa Severson is one of two College of Social Work advisors here on campus. She pointed out to me that my passions of helping others can be used in the workforce. After what seemed like hours of conversation, I came to the conclusion to declare Social Work as my major. I will be taking the Global Option track which means that I will focus my passions on a global scale and use my interest for international affairs. This was a huge moment for me and lifted a heavy weight off my shoulders. Andréa led me to jump in and I am very grateful for the advice she offered me. I am excited to begin my path in Social Work here at Ohio State and, hopefully, counsel victims of international and domestic human trafficking someday.
