The G.O.A.L.S model outlined above represents an academic benchmark for all students within the honors program to strive towards. The areas of the G.O.A.L.S, Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement, all embody areas of society which are essential to not only take part in, but to help prepare and and face the challenges of our future may give us. I fully intend to not only follow the G.O.A.L.S model but to extend and further expand my own set of goals to align and help move me forward towards and thrive in each of those areas.

Global Awareness: The Global Awareness section to me, involves not only an interaction with a diverse group of students and individuals in society, but a learned understanding of perspectives, which can help to further insight all goals I have with a more informed opinion. Currently, I am taking a history course focusing on Britain and its modern day, and past cultural intricacies. Throughout my first semester at the university, I have been able to explore and meet a variety of people each with a different background, adding to my understanding and perspective of the world. In the future, I hope to continue meeting and learning from more fellow, diverse students and others to build upon what I know about the world around me.

Original Inquiry: While this semester I was unable to take apart in research, starting next semester, I was able to find a position within a medical laboratory involving 3-D Cardio-Imaging to help identify and more specifically look at abnormalities and medical issues involving the heart. This research opportunity is absolutely a blessing and I hope to be able to use to opportunity to help towards the development of effective technique to support the community at large.

Academic Enrichment: As a student of the honors program, I have willingly put myself in a position where I can both challenge myself with the classes I’m talking while being able to extend and succeed at the knowledge I’m learning. As a Microbiology Major, I also recently added another major in Political Science, to help me learn more about a field which may seem opposite of my future desire to go into medicine, but is what I believe can best challenge me to learn the most I can at a high level. My General Education courses also are meant to help supplement my knowledge within different fields, for example with the classical mythology course I’m taking and how much I’m learning about Greek and Ancient Cultures. I also intend to take full advantage of the honors program with honors sections, to challenge myself with courses at a greater rigor.

Leadership Development: Maybe the most important quality on the list, the creation of a leadership factor within myself is important to allow me to best thrive in the world ahead of me. As I join more clubs in my first semester, I continually gain more and more opportunities to put myself out as a leader, and hopefully to later put myself in a leadership position to further practice that quality. Within the classroom I also try to put myself out more and try to act as a spearhead in conversation and make an example for myself to stand out.

Service Engagement: Currently I volunteer at an outpatient facility belonging to Ohio State. I hope for this to be an opportunity to not only give back to the community, but to also act as a learning experience to further my knowledge of the medical filed and its inner workings. In the future, I would like to get myself involved with other fields of volunteering, specifically, environmental activities, as I believe this is not only important to assist in but will become and ever-growing important part of our lives in the future.
