Meaningful Songs Playlist

Molly on the shore, Percy grainger-

I played this piece my sophomore year at WVMEA, and it was the first band piece I really fell in love with.  I got to play it again with the OSU symphonic during our last concert cycle, and it reinvigorated my love for the piece. When I play this piece, I feel especially passionate about playing clarinet and making music with others.
Slipping through my fingers, Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried-
This song is meaningful to me because of its use in the movie Mamma Mia. This scene with the mother and daughter reminds me of the relationship I had with my mom.
I will follow you into the dark, death cab-
This is my all time favorite song. My dad used to sing it to my mom, and I think the lyrics are beautiful and simple.
This One’s for the Girls, Martina Mcbride-
This song is meaningful to me because my mom and I used to sing it when I was younger. I remember that I was excited when my mom turned 42 because the lyrics talked about a 42 year old woman.
Moanin’, Charles Mingus-
I love this song because it’s so funky and different. I especially love the Bari sax in the beginning. I have many memories of my friend Brishti and I driving around Morgantown and listening to it.
Wagon Wheel, Old Crow Medicine Show- This song is meaningful to me because when my family goes to my grandma’s house, we have jam sessions to this song. My dad and cousin Billy both play guitar, and we all sing along. It may not sound the best, but it’s become a family tradition.
Take Me Home, Country Roads, John Denver-
This song is meaningful to me because it honors my West Virginia roots. The lyrics talk about how beautiful West Virginia is, and I know I will always have a place for WV in my heart, no matter where life takes me.
Uptown girl, Billy Joel- I love this song because it’s just fun to sing along to. No matter what stage of life I’m in, I love this song. Plus, Billy Joel has always been one of my favorite artists.

Partner Photo Project

I was so happy to be able to get to know Sam.  I had talked to her a few times before this project, but I’d never really talked to her.  As it would turn out, Sam is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.  For our project, we decided to walk around and take pictures in South Oval and eat at Sloopy’s Diner, so we would have time to get to know one another.  Before this, I’d always admired Sam as a musician.  She is an amazing oboist, and always holds her self well; I now know that Sam has extreme drive and passion for what she does.  She was inspired by her band director to pursue a career in music, and I don’t think I’ve talked to anyone with so much dedication to her calling.  But even more than that, I really admire how humble Sam is.  She carries herself with grace, and I think that shines through in her everyday actions.

 

Of course, there are many other sides to her personality.  Sam is just as silly as I am, which is one of the many reasons I enjoy her company so much.  I think the picture of Sam truly captures her silly and bashful nature.  She is a beautiful person inside and out, and I’m lucky to be able to call her my friend.  I really liked this assignment, as it gave us a chance to make a new connection and maybe even a lifelong friend.  In fact, Sam and I are going to the beach together this summer with a group of our friends, and I couldn’t be more excited.
