Homework # 2 The Secret Life of Drawing 1- the Line of Enquiry
Francis Wells was absolutely remarkable. His work is so inspiring. I haven’t come across any artist like him before, his work is extremely unique and quite impressive. I like how he mentioned how hand eye coordination in surgery and relates to drawing. While watching the film I felt his passion for his work he truly loves what he does, and he has a purpose. Not only are his drawings fantastic he is also a surgeon and using his drawings to teach and save people’s lives, this is a true artist!
George Stubbs was yet another amazing artist. I like that he chose to focus on one thing that he found interesting. I was a little creeped out when I heard how he was learning to draw the horses by using dead ones to study their anatomy and form. Personally, it seems a bit mad, but he was motivated (or obsessed) and that drive gave him the ability to perform the way he did. His horse paintings were astounding! I too have a desire to draw or paint horses I have only drawn one in pencil, but I have a collection of inspiring photos on my phone that I would like to pursue.
John Audubon was a phenomenal artist and I loved the drama and detail in all his work that was shown on the film. Although he was a great artist, I wasn’t impressed by the method he chose in order to draw. He killed hundreds of birds so that he could draw them, I thought this was a little unnecessary, I think taking a picture would be more appropriate.
