Lab Alumni


Sophia Gutierrez

Sophia is currently an undergraduate student at OSU and is majoring in Psychology. She is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. She plans on entering the field of clinical neuropsychology and is mainly interested in Alzheimer’s research. In her free time she likes to read, write, and draw.

Christina Himes

Christina is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Pharmaceutical Sciences and Psychology. She will begin Ohio State’s Doctor of Pharmacy program in August 2023. Her research interests include the effects of chronic stress on domains of cognitive and physical health. In the future, she hopes to help adolescents with substance misuse and mental health disorders. For fun, Christina enjoys traveling, running, and binging television shows.


Erin Zhao

Erin is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Psychology on the pre-med track. Her research interests include stress and mental health and her previous experiences in research were involved in multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia. Outside of the lab, Erin is a mentor for students in the TOPS program at OSU and enjoys music/playing the piano, watching TV, and hanging out with friends.


Evan Teicher

Evan Teicher is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Evan’s background includes experience as a Community Mental Health Worker, where she provided critical support to young children in low-income, urban areas. Additionally, her research has focused on the effects of parental incarceration on families and children. Outside of her work, Evan enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, and spending time with her two cats.


Grace Roseen

Grace is a graduate of Wartburg College with B.A.s in Psychology and Neuroscience with a minor in Leadership. She has previously conducted research at Wartburg College studying the effects of mask wearing on facial emotion recognition in humans and the effects of minor traumatic brain injuries in mice. Her interests include TBI and the relationship between the brain, cognition, and physical abilities. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.


Abigail Shell

Abby is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. She has previously performed research at the medical center studying patients with TBI. Her interests include TBI, degenerative brain disease, and sports-related brain injuries. In her free time, she enjoys working out and learning about new things. She is now pursuing her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh.

Gioia Melillo

Gioia worked with the MINDSET Lab as an undergraduate research assistant and is currently finishing her bachelor’s degree. She is involved in multiple volunteering programs and is working towards graduate school.


Juan Guzman Roca

Juan worked with the MINDSET Lab as a research assistant and is currently working at Mitre Corporation as a Software Engineer. He is also pursuing his PhD at Wright State University in Interdisciplinary Applied Science and Mathematics.

Alex Hasselbach

Alex joined The MINDSET Lab in 2019 after graduating from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in biomedical engineering. He previously co-authored A Novel Methodology for Extracting and Evaluating Therapeutic Movements in Game-Based Motion Capture Rehabilitation Systems (2018), with the Brain and Neurorecovery Lab at Ohio State. He is interested in clinical applications of neuroscience research and its potential to create new and better treatments. When he isn’t in the lab, he likes running, traveling, and building computers. He left the lab to attend medical school at the University of Toledo. 


Nimanthi Ranatunga

Nimanthi is an undergraduate student studying Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies, and joined the MINDSET Lab in 2020. Her previous experiences in research involved utilizing eye trackintechnology with deaf children who have cochlear implants to study differences in cognitive abilities. Her research interests include stress, trauma, mental health, and social support and how such aspects influence behavior. Outside of the lab, Nimanthi loves reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. She has left in order to pursue her PsyD at Xavier University.

Erin Gilliland

Erin is studying neuroscience with a minor in clinical psychology as an undergraduate student here at The Ohio State University. She is interested stress-related disorders, trauma, and neuropsychology. She is planning on pursuing graduate school in the future. Outside of the lab, Erin is a Wellness Coach for the University. She enjoys working out, taking care of her plants, cooking, and spending time with her loved ones.


Yu Ning Shiu 

Yu Ning is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics and Biology, on the pre-dental track. Her research interests include mental health, stress, and trauma. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time with friends and family. She has now moved onto pursuing a path in chemistry research and hopes to one day get her dental degree.
