Sarah has Successfully Defended Her Dissertation!

Congratulations to Sarah, who has successfully defended her dissertation, ‘Unpacking the Serial Mediation Roles of Perceived Stress and Metabolic Syndrome in the Association Between Perceived Discrimination and Cognitive Outcomes Among Middle-Aged American Adults’.

Robrielle won a presentation award at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists!

Congratulations to Robrielle, who won Best Poster Presentation Award in Social and Behavioral Sciences. This award was given to 396 individuals out of over 2300 presentations to those who demonstrate strong communication abilities, understanding, and quality of their research. Way to go, Robrielle!!

Welcome Robrielle to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce that Robrielle Pierce will be joining our MINDSET LAB! She is a graduate from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience and a B.A. in Philosophy. Her research interests include evaluating how TBI affects cognition and white matter integrity in older adult populations through neuropsychological assessment and DTI.

Welcome Stacey to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Stacey to the MINDSET Lab! She will be working with the FASTER Study as a Research Assistant. Stacey is a graduate of The College of Wooster with a B.A. in Psychology. She has previously conducted research on the other-race classification advantage in face recognition using EEGs.

Dalia Receives the Undergraduate Research Scholarship (URS)!

Welcome Nicole to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Nicole to the MINDSET Lab! She will be joining the lab as a clinical psychology Ph.D. student with an emphasis in neuropsychology. Prior to beginning her Ph.D. at OSU, she conducted research on neurodegenerative diseases and TBI at the Roskamp Institute and the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease and CTE Centers. Her research interests include neuroimaging markers of early-stage neurodegenerative disease and risk/resilience factors for cognitive decline including sex, cardiovascular fitness, head trauma exposure, and sociodemographic factors. 

Welcome Evan to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Evan to the MINDSET Lab! She will be a Research Assistant for the MINDSET Lab, the FASTER Study, and the BUCKS Study. Evan is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College with a B.A. in Psychology. Before joining the lab, she studied the long and short term effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Toxic Stress.

Welcome Grace to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Grace to the MINDSET Lab! She will be working with the FASTER Study as a Research Assistant as well! Grace is a graduate of Wartburg College with a B.A. in Psychology and Neuroscience with a minor in Leadership. She has previously conducted research at Wartburg College studying the effects of mask wearing on facial emotion recognition in humans and the effects of minor traumatic brain injuries in mice.

Dr. Jasmeet Hayes Receives the Fred Brown Research Award!!

This award recognizes the outstanding research paper of the year from the OSU’s Department of Psychology. Dr. Jasmeet Hayes received this award for her journal article titled: The association between blast exposure and transdiagnostic health symptoms on systemic inflammation. In press at Neuropsychopharmacology.

Congratulations Abby on Graduating!!

Abby graduated on May 9th with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a minor in neuroscience. She is now transitioning to an RA position in the lab!! We are so proud! We are also excited to see Abby grow as a researcher in her new role in the lab.

Nimanthi is Awarded STEP funding!

Nimanthi, an undergraduate researcher at the MINDSET Lab, has just been awarded a fellowship from the Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). Students who complete this program are eligible for funding in multiple areas, including research. Nimanthi plans to use this funding to work on her undergraduate thesis at the MINDSET Lab over this summer. Way to go Nimanthi!!

Erin is Awarded the Billingslea Research Award!

Erin received this award due to her scholastic achievements and her research goals. This award is only given to juniors and seniors who stand out academically and have research that can be applied to clinical issues. This is a great achievement for Erin and we are so proud of her! We are happy to see her hard work be awarded!

Jena Gets an Honorable Mention for Her NSF Graduate Fellowship Grant!

Dr. Hayes Presents at the 2021 TBI Summit!

Dr. Hayes is talking about the complexities that arise for an individual with TBI  during treatment if they have an additional mood or psychological disorder. The entire summit is March 18th and 19th. Dr. Hayes will be presenting on the morning of the 19th under the “Trauma-Informed Practices” zoom session. Dr. Hayes Participates in NEURONIGHTS!!

Dr. Hayes is presenting “Lessons from Veterans’ Care” tonight at 6:30 pm. This is an educational workshop from OSU’s Chronic Brain Injury program. The presentation is aimed towards survivors of brain injury and their families or care takers, but all are welcome! Sarah presented her poster “Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms are Associated with Reduced Performance on the MoCA among Vietnam Veterans” at a poster session at the National Academy of Neuropsychology! Sarah Has Received a Career Development Grant!

Graduate student Sarah Prieto has received a Career Development Grant! This grant is provided to assist graduate students in preparing for placement in their specific field. Sarah is planning to use this grant to allow her to present at a conference.  It is important to note that this grant is awarded to individuals that show strong connections between their professional goals and their career development plans. The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease Has Published a MINDSET Lab Article!

The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease has published the article titled, “Genetic risk for Alzheimer’s Disease moderates the association between medial temporal lobe volume and episodic memory performance among older adults,” which was written and worked on by members of The MINDSET Lab!  Graduate student Sarah Prieto has been working very hard on this paper, and her work has not gone unrecognized. Dr. Hayes participates in the Humanities and Cognitive Sciences High School Summer Institute 

This program brought high school students together with distinguished OSU professors to engage in dynamic lectures and digitally interactive learning spaces. Dr. Hayes on “What tips do you have for fighting stress without spending money?”

Dr. Hayes recently wrote a piece for WalletHub.com discussing her top tips on how to fight stress without having to spend money. This article highlights the most and least stressed states in the country and provides helpful information on stress. Dr. Hayes gives a handful of very helpful tips on how you can reduce the stress in your life by making time for activities to combat stress. The MINDSET Lab Has a New Lab Space!!!

The MINDSET Lab has a newly renovated lab space on the 2nd floor of the Psychology Building! Complete with a custom sign of our lab logo, OSU colors, and plenty of space to work, we are so excited to utilize this space. We are very excited to work in this new space, and are already making it feel like home with the addition of cupcakes and other goodies every few days. We can’t wait to see what happens in this new space!

Gioia Presents at the 2019 Consortium Research Symposium!

Gioia attended the 2019 Consortium Research Symposium to present her research on sleep, stress, and the precuneus. This event was put together by the Graduate School at OSU, and she was invited to present her research through her summer fellowship provided by the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program. She had the opportunity to share her research with a wide range of individuals from many different departments, colleges, and even universities.

CBI Research Day 2019

Members of The MINDSET Lab attended the 2019 Chronic Brain Injury Research Day conference to listen to a variety of speakers, and present posters on their current research in the lab.

Gioia is awarded the URAP Fellowship!

Gioia has been awarded the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program fellowship, which will fund her summer project on resilience factors and TBI with an award of $4,000! She will present her project at a conference during the school year.
