Dr. Hayes was invited to speak on the Age Better podcast hosted by Barbara Hannah Grufferman. This podcast is dedicated to sharing information on nutrition, fitness, sleep, health, sex, menopause, and more to help people ‘age better.’ During her featured appearance, she discussed topics such as inflammation, stress, and their crucial link to metabolic syndrome, drawing from her recent research. Welcome Alyssa to The MINDSET Lab!

The MINDSET Lab is excited to announce the addition of a new member to the team! Alyssa will be pursuing her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology. She graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 2020 with a B.S. in neuroscience and psychology. Before joining the MINDSET lab in 2024, she worked as a clinical research coordinator at the Yale School of Medicine’s Alzheimer Disease Research Unit studying preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease. Her research focus is brain injury’s impact on later life cognition, neurodegeneration, and AD pathology development. Outside of the lab, Alyssa enjoys reading, exploring museums and art galleries, and board game nights with friends.

The MINDSET Lab is excited to announce the addition of a new member to the team! Kendra will be joining as a new Cognitive Neuroscience PhD student. Following graduation, she conducted research on music cognition at Missouri University of Science & Technology. Her research interests include using various neuroimaging techniques to explore how post-traumatic stress alters the brain and cognitive abilities, and discovering practical interventions to combat PTSD symptoms. In her free time, Kendra enjoys cooking, crocheting, reading, and hanging out with her friends.

Welcome Robrielle to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce that Robrielle Pierce will be joining our MINDSET LAB! She is a graduate from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience and a B.A. in Philosophy. Her research interests include evaluating how TBI affects cognition and white matter integrity in older adult populations through neuropsychological assessment and DTI.

Welcome Nicole to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Nicole to the MINDSET Lab! She will be joining the lab as a clinical psychology Ph.D. student with an emphasis in neuropsychology. Prior to beginning her Ph.D. at OSU, she conducted research on neurodegenerative diseases and TBI at the Roskamp Institute and the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease and CTE Centers. Her research interests include neuroimaging markers of early-stage neurodegenerative disease and risk/resilience factors for cognitive decline including sex, cardiovascular fitness, head trauma exposure, and sociodemographic factors.

We are excited to announce the addition of Evan to the MINDSET Lab! She will be a Research Assistant for the MINDSET Lab, the FASTER Study, and the BUCKS Study. Evan is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College with a B.A. in Psychology. Before joining the lab, she studied the long and short term effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Toxic Stress.

Welcome Grace to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Grace to the MINDSET Lab! She will be working with the FASTER Study as a Research Assistant as well! Grace is a graduate of Wartburg College with a B.A. in Psychology and Neuroscience with a minor in Leadership. She has previously conducted research at Wartburg College studying the effects of mask wearing on facial emotion recognition in humans and the effects of minor traumatic brain injuries in mice.

This award recognizes the outstanding research paper of the year from the OSU’s Department of Psychology. Dr. Jasmeet Hayes received this award for her journal article titled: The association between blast exposure and transdiagnostic health symptoms on systemic inflammation. Welcome Erica Howard to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Erica to the MINDSET Lab. She will also be starting the PhD program for clinical psychology in Fall 2021!! Erica graduated from Fordham University in 2017 with a B.S. in Neuroscience. She then worked with neurodegenerative disease patients at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the MINDSET lab in 2021. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology. Her research interests include brain injury and its interaction with other biopsychological risk factors for neurodegeneration. For fun, Erica enjoys traveling, auto racing, and hanging out with family and friends.


Welcome Savana Jurgens to the MINDSET Lab!!

We are excited to announce the addition of Savana to the MINDSET Lab. She will be starting the PhD program for clinical psychology in Fall 2021!! Savana graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Psychology and Biology in 2020. Before joining the MINDSET Lab, she worked as a research assistant on a study examining the long-term effects of stress and TBI in veterans at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.  Her research interests include neural and genetic correlates of symptom outcomes in TBI and stress-related disorders. Outside of the lab she enjoys hiking, music, travel and the occasional reality TV binge.

Nimanthi is Awarded STEP funding!

Nimanthi, an undergraduate researcher at the MINDSET Lab, has just been awarded a fellowship from the Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). Students who complete this program are eligible for funding in multiple areas, including research. Nimanthi plans to use this funding to work on her undergraduate thesis at the MINDSET Lab over this summer. Way to go Nimanthi!!

Dr. Hayes Presents at the 2021 TBI Summit!

Dr. Hayes is talking about the complexities that arise for an individual with TBI  during treatment if they have an additional mood or psychological disorder. The entire summit is March 18th and 19th. Dr. Hayes will be presenting on the morning of the 19th under the “Trauma-Informed Practices” zoom session. Dr. Hayes Participates in NEURONIGHTS!!

Dr. Hayes is presenting “Lessons from Veterans’ Care” tonight at 6:30 pm. This is an educational workshop from OSU’s Chronic Brain Injury program. The presentation is aimed towards survivors of brain injury and their families or care takers, but all are welcome! The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease Has Published a MINDSET Lab Article!

The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease has published the article titled, “Genetic risk for Alzheimer’s Disease moderates the association between medial temporal lobe volume and episodic memory performance among older adults,” which was written and worked on by members of The MINDSET Lab!  Graduate student Sarah Prieto has been working very hard on this paper, and her work has not gone unrecognized. This program brought high school students together with distinguished OSU professors to engage in dynamic lectures and digitally interactive learning spaces. The MINDSET Lab Has a New Lab Space!!!

The MINDSET Lab has a newly renovated lab space on the 2nd floor of the Psychology Building! Complete with a custom sign of our lab logo, OSU colors, and plenty of space to work, we are so excited to utilize this space. We are very excited to work in this new space, and are already making it feel like home with the addition of cupcakes and other goodies every few days. We can’t wait to see what happens in this new space!
