Habitat for Humanity Service Trips
Although this artifact is not from my college years, it has influenced my life greatly and has grown my passion for service. During high school, I was a part of a service organization. I had the opportunity for three years in a row to attend a spring break trip to New York to work with a Habitat for Humanity and work in the city of New Rochelle. During these three weeks, I had the opportunity to put siding on houses, paint local community centers, participate in demolition, work with members of the community, and partake in a variety of other service activities. During this these weeks I made lasting friendships, made a small impact on a community, and became more aware of some of the problems people living near major cities like New York City face.

This trip gave me a heart for service. I found that I enjoy being actively apart and serving communities. This lead me to continue to participate in service during my time at Ohio State.

G.O.A.L.S

Service Engagement

One of the several G.O.A.L.S in the honors and scholars program at Ohio State is service engagement. I have found that engaging in service is a great way to make improvements in your own community. Service can provide enriching opportunities to interact with many different people. It can also be rewarding to see even small changes being made. I have a passion for service which is why I chose to be in the Advocates for Communities and Education scholars group this year. I also have a background of service. I participated and lead an Interact club, a high school version of the worldwide service organization Rotary, during my time in high school. Being apart of a service organization has always brought me joy and provided me with unique experiences. I was excited to take part in service during my time at Ohio State. During my few short months here, I have had the opportunity to serve the community through cleaning up local streets and parks, making blankets for children in need, and even be a volunteer swim timer for the Ohio State swim team. I plan to continue to engage in service like this and also in many other ways.
