Year in Review
Two meaningful experiences from my first year at Ohio State University include meeting my best friends at Ohio State and joining CHAARG. Meeting my best friends at OSU has been extremely meaningful because I have found a group of people that I fit in with and feel comfortable with. At such a big school like OSU, this is important because it can sometimes be difficult to find a place where you feel fit in. Joining CHAARG, a nation wide fitness club for girls was also a great experience that made my freshman year meaningful. As a high school athlete, I have enjoyed the community, friends, and the positive impact that sports have given my life. With CHAARG I have been able to continue this part of my life into college.

In this project, my engineering group researched the Personal Rapid Transit System in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. This city was built to run completely green. We learned a lot about the new technologies they have created and researched to make a green transportation system in the city, and the challenges that they faced while working on this project. I learned about how to use journals and other credible resources in a project, and how to work together as a team to complete a project. It also gave me the opportunity to learn about something that I didn’t have much prior knowledge on.
About Me
My name is Josie Miller. I am a Sophomore at OSU, currently studying Chemical Engineering. I am involved on campus through the Green Engineering Scholars, an organization focused on service, learning, and leadership. I am also involved in a workout club called CHAARG, Women in Math and Science Club(WIMS), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. I also work as an Office Assistant at my dorm, and played both sand volleyball and regular volleyball on an intramural team this year. I have participated in the Second Year Transformational Program (STEP) this year, and am excited to use my funding on an internship away from home next semester. Throughout my second year at OSU, I have officially gotten into my major, and I have learned a lot about how to manage my time better with a job, multiple clubs and a heavy course load. I have also learned better studying techniques through taking difficult classes. I got my first internship for the upcoming summer, and I am excited to learn more about my career interests while also gaining some real-world experiences.
