Artifacts

This past week I learned about proteins. The components of a protein and how they form. Proteins are made of amino acids that are bonded together with peptide bonds. These peptide bonds form the backbone of the protein. Hanging off the backbone are R-groups, each one has a specific function and order to create the protein. Without the proper order, the function of the protein will be severely affected and cause a dis function inside the cell. Proteins have four levels of shape. The sequence of the backbone, the secondary helix or sheet shape, the tertiary 3D shape, and sometimes the quaternary shape.

About Me

I am Celeste Miller, a first year at the Ohio State University in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental science. My major is food science and technology. I plan to specialize in product development. I want to work in a lab to produce new products for food companies. I have always had a passion and fascination for food, what it is made of, and how it is made. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes in 2018 and this diagnosis confirmed my plan to major in food science. I plan to get a masters degree and PhD in food science. I hope to be able to create products that will be sensitive to people with dietary restrictions and needs.

I am from New Franklin, Ohio, a small town outside of Akron. In high school I was involved in many clubs, organizations, and volunteer opportunities. I am passionate about helping others and want to give less fortunate people and poverty stricken families any help that I can give. Helping in food pantries, packing boxes for international food companies, and donating items and time are some of the ways I have volunteered. I was greatly involved in 4H and the Junior Fair Board in my county throughout school.

I hope to keep a record of my experiences through college and beyond. This information will be important for future resumes and to track my personal growth.
