Welcome to the academic pages of Michael Meckler, Permanent Fellow in the Center for Epigraphical and Palaeographical Studies at The Ohio State University.
My research interests are in Roman and medieval European history, classical and medieval Latin literature, Celtic studies and the classical tradition. My two current major research projects — which are rather divergent in time and topic — concern language use and change in the provinces of the Roman empire in the Latin West during late antiquity, and the assumptions made by dog breeders in the 19th century about the historical antecedents of their breeds.
Connected to my scholarship on the origins of modern dog breeds, I have been giving a related lecture on “Dog Breeds in Classical Antiquity” at universities across the country.
In addition to my academic research, I hold an administrative appointment here at Ohio State handling marketing for the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy.
My social media presence is on Mastodon, and you can find me there at @michaelmeckler@mastodonapp.uk.
