Maintaining Motivation Blog Post

I think the most useful thing I learned in this module is how to avoid distractions and this was a big problem for me when I study or work. There are four methods in this module that introduced how to avoid introduction which are using apps, using two accounts on the computer, clearing the spaces, and putting thoughts on paper. And I have tried them in practice and they play an important role in helping me focus on my studies and works.

More specifically, as for using the app, I have downloaded the Forest app which would record how much time I have studied and would prevent information on the smartphone to attract my attention. With the help of this app, I could devote myself when I study and have an awareness of how much time I have studied which is positive to improve my studying efficiency.

As for putting thoughts on paper, I like this idea so much. Every time I have tons of things to do and I have no idea what job I should do first and do not have a priority to my work. Right now with the helo of this idea, I would make a to-do list on paper first before I begin my work or studies, and make a priority of these jobs then I would finish them one by one. When I finish all of the jobs on the to-do list, I have a strong sense of achievement.

The most useful thing I learned in this module is a Youtube video called “Tips for writing a college research paper”. After watching this video, I know how to write a research paper in a better way. More specifically, before starting a research paper, I would create a outline of the paper and figure out the structure of the paper. The structure I learned is that the whole paper would be divided into three different parts. The first part is the beginning of the research paper. The main topic and the thesis would be included in the first part. As for the second part, it focus on the details of the arguments just like how to examine the arguments and display evidences to support the arguments. In order to make the whole part more clear, it is important to employ subheads in bold to underscores the main points in this parts. As for the third part, it would pay attention to the thesis again. However, it focus thesis in order to make a conclusion about the whole paper. The three parts structure would play an important role in improving the structure to make the paper more clearer for readers to read.

During the video, I learned how to inspire ideas about the paper as well. It is important to write down my stream of thought directly when I have some ideas about the topic. More specifically, jotting down everything I want to say is a good idea to make the content more colorful.

Web-Enhanced Listening and Viewing Strategies Blog Post

The most useful thing I learned in this module is that how to take notes as an active learner. More specifically, according to https://open.lib.umn.edu/collegesuccess/chapter/4-4-got-notes/, different formats for taking notes such as outlines, concepts maps, and Cornell method play an important role in understanding how to take notes in the lectures. Take the outline method as an example, I did not have awareness of the outline before. Every time I take notes I would take the content directly which is not convenient at all when I take a review every time. If I just want to review a specific part of my notes, I have to go through the whole pages of notes to look for the specific part. With an outline, it is convenient for me to review my notes and help me to sort out ideas and structures of the content.

The outline also plays an important role in mapping important points about lectures which paves way for the concept mapping. More specifically, the key of the concept map method is to make logical connections between the important points. The first step to do this is to figure out what are important points that lie on the outline. With the help of the outline, we can know important points under every specific branch. Every time I take notes, I would make an outline first. After reviewing, I would map the concept with the help of outlines to make logical connections with important knowledge points.

Web-Enhanced Reading and Study Strategies

The most useful thing I learned in this module is the SQ3R reading method which is skimming, questioning, reading, reciting, and reviewing.

And I have already put this reading method into practice. More specifically, when I start a new article or a new book to read I would read the outline first and go through the whole pages of the article or the book to take a glance in order to finish the rule of skimming. After skimming the article or the book, I would have a rough understanding of the article or the book. I usually have some questions as well after taking a glance. And when I begin to read it, I would take my questions to understand the article or the book which would solve my questions and with high efficiency (). During the process of reading, there would have some new questions about the content and I would write them down to deal with them after finishing the whole readings. After finishing the whole reading with taking notes. I would recite notes and something is highlighted to strengthen the main points. During the process of reciting, I usually have a new understanding of the content which deepens the depth of thinking. After reciting, it is time to review after reading articles and books for a while. when it comes to reviewing, I would review my notes and check questions when I was in the stage of reading. It plays an important role in strengthen memories and deepening thinking and thoughts.

The most useful thing I learned in this module is to learn more about problems of procrastination and distractions. More specifically, I not only know why distractions and procrastination would happen but also I can know how to deal with these problems. More explicitly, according to the video, how to beat procrastinationhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA8D1cGW5Qk, as for how to beat procrastination, there are three rules which are ten minutes work, three magical questions and ultimate goal vs inmmediate desire. First, as for ten minutes work, it teaches me when I do not want to do a work because it is really conplicate I can out it into different small parts and just try to do it for the first ten minutes. After doing the first ten minutes, I would realize that it is not that hard to do and a sense of accomplishment would raised up. In this situation, it is easier to try to do another ten minutes work which paves the way to finish the whole project. As for the magical question, I think two of them would make me to clear my mind which are “What do you want to do” and “How are you feel after doing it”. With asking my self “what do you want to do”, I would clear my minds that what is the most important thing right now realize the importance of what I need to do. With asking myself the question “How are you feel after doing it” , I feel encouraged for doing something just on time and firgure out that it is not that hard to do it. It would clear ways for me to do something on time next time.

Module 2: Communicating and Collaborating

What is the most useful thing I learned in this module?

The most useful thing I learned in this module is that netiquette plays an important role in online communication and the choice of the words should be polite and official. More specifically, because people’s faces cannot be seen, emotions of words cannot be expressed by body language or faces, word choices play an important role in express emotions. In this circumstance, according to BBC, http://www.bbc.co.uk/webwise/guides/about-netiquette,sarcasm and slang are forbidden. What’s more, capitalizing on all of the texts is rude as well. Moreover, I also learn it is important to declare my thoughts and opinions as detailed as possible to let others get my point easily to improve the efficiency of communication.

What is a specific example of something from this module I have already put into practice? How did it work out?

I have already put the netiquette rule as an example. More explicitly, when I communicate online with my classmates, I don’t capitalize any text anymore even on GroupMe. And during text and email, I would declare my points as detailed as possible with formal words.

What ideas from this module could I put into practice in the future? How?

I think the academic the outline of academic email and tips for emailing professors is really helpful and useful and there is no doubt that I would use it in the future to communicate with my professors.

What advice would I give to students (or working professionals), based on what I’ve read or experienced during this module?

Based on what I have read and experiences during this module I would suggest students use bidar points to declare what they want to say when communicating online with classmates and professors.
