Year in Review

G.O.A.L.S.

I will take classes that teach about cultures around the world to develop my global awareness. I will take history classes to learn about what situations impacted certain cultures to make them into what they are today. Also, by learning about others it will help me be more aware of the different circumstances people around the world deal with.  I will also work on improving my Russian language skills to a more proficient level. I plan on traveling to Russia in the future and in that time learning more about the culture.

For my original inquiry I plan on taking difficult courses in mathematics that challenge my thinking. I will be taking 5000 level statistics classes for my minor. I also plan to do my own research on the differences in the cultures of Russia and America to see what separates them so much. Both countries were leading superpowers but the people have completely different mindsets and I want to learn what that is.

I am most excited for my history classes as I believe I will learn more applicable things from them than my core classes. Yes my core classes will help me with my major and enrich my mind with knowledge but I believe the simpler classes are actually more useful in day to day life. They provide a different outlook on life and will let me connect with others better. So because of this I will be taking more history classes and classes outside of my major to teach me more about people around me.

For leadership development I might join Actuarial club and try to get a good position in the club. I will also be working in my church youth group as a leader. I have been leading a small group in discussions and research as well as just simple activities and I plan to continue leading this group. Over the next few summers I also plan on getting internships at insurance agencies to help me know how to act and work towards my goal of getting a job.

To engage in service engagement I plan on helping those around me. I partake in Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan’s purse, which is packing shoe boxes with gifts for children. Also my youth group in involved in an outreach called Feed My Sheep which helps feed the homeless on Tuesday nights and I plan on helping out with that. Also in the spring I get together with a group and we pick up trash along the side of roads by our homes to help keep our community clean.
