This is my finished drawing of my still life. Within the still life I had a pair of my pointe shoes, a watch, an eraser, a pencil sharpener and a box. I couldn’t get myself to fill the page as well as I wanted to, I have always struggled with going bigger when I draw. If you look at the image closer there are also simple shadow outlines both on the objects and that are created by the objects. Below this text is a picture of the still life itself.
I did not draw the white box in the very back as it was there to hold the weight of the pointe shoes from moving the other box. I also did not end up including the pencil as it just didn’t seem to fit as I kept drawing.
Before starting my drawing I did three thumbnail sketches with the objects in different orientations. To the left are my three different thumbnails sketches that I did to find the composition I felt most comfortable with.
As I was working I tried to take progress shots, despite how simple the drawing looks I spent quite a while on this drawing, some of which was just setting up a grid so that I could match up what I was seeing proportionally on the page. The first image below is the first progress shot, where I had set up my grid and a very basic outline. This is followed by the second progress shot I took under it and so on.
