Developmental Milestones – Helping your child grow to their fullest potential

Developmental milestones are fun and part of watching your child grow. They can also be anxiety provoking for parents if you are “not sure” your child is on target for their age. CDC Milestone’s Page (has information for expected milestones by each age): https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html

If you have any concerns about your child’s development please use the tools here to do a quick home assessment.

If that is abnormal and your next pediatrician visit is far enough away you don’t want to wait, please reach out for an evaluation. Some developmental delays do need intervention with special providers in pediatric rehabilitation such as physical therapists, occupational therapists or speech therapists.

Insurance often covers these services and there are avenues to engage in services through school and early childhood intervention programs run by the state and local entities. Know that we will make every effort to find an affordable option for you if cost is a concern. Helping your child be the best they can be is our top priority!

“Ages and Stages” is the organization providing common developmental questionnaires you may have seen or completed called an “ASQ” which stands for Ages and Stages Questionnaire. Fancy clever name right!? CDC has a free app that allows you to complete the ASQ for your child (and will send you reminders when the next one is due if you want.)

Mobile App from Google Play or App Store: https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones-app.html

Whether you have concerns or just want to see if your child is learning and developing as expected, using that app is a great place to start.

A link to videos of each developmental milestone asked about in the ASQ to demonstrate what is expected: https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/milestones-in-action.html

Below are links to handouts full of activities to promote each stage of development based on your child’s age (or developmental age if your child is premature).

They all have fun, age appropriate activities/games that you and your child will enjoy regardless if your child is developing as expected or scoring behind.
