G.O.A.L.S.

To me, global awareness means that I am engaged and informed about the wider world and my place in it. To broaden my horizons, I plan to take courses that challenge my perspective on the world and teach me about perspectives and ideas that I have not encountered before. By learning about other people and the wider world around me, I can become a more engaged global citizen.

To me, original inquiry means creating and answering my own original questions about the world around me. Instead of learning the answers to questions that others have asked. I can pursue my own research and try and uncover new questions and concepts. Undergraduate microbiology research can help me by giving me an opportunity to pursue my own lines of inquiry and work on groundbreaking new research.

Academic enrichment is the willingness to go above and beyond in my learning, both in and out of the classroom. Taking honors courses, doing individual readings and projects, and generally pursuing knowledge beyond the basics of the course are all ways in which I can take my learning to the next level.

To me, leadership development is the development of my leadership skills by actively seeking out leadership positions in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. By expanding my responsibilities and rising to the top of clubs, activities, group projects, and more, I can develop my leadership skills.

Service engagement is the act of giving back to the community and working to improve the lives of those around me. By volunteering and giving my time towards various community service projects, I can work towards giving back to the community and making the world around me a better place.
