CME Webcast Provides COVID-19 Vaccine Update. COVID-19 is not the first epidemic that mankind has faced. Nor will it be the last. For 225 years, physicians have used vaccines to control epidemic infections. Today on MedNet, we are going to learn about the most recent vaccine that humankind is using to combat a deadly infection, namely COVID-19. Joining me today are 3 leaders of the Ohio State University’s COVID vaccination efforts. Ryan Haley is an ambulatory services administrator and the organizer of the OSU vaccine program. Dr. Jonathan Parsons is a Professor of Internal Medicine from the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. He is also the Executive Vice Chairman for Clinical Operations of the Department of Internal Medicine. And Dr. Nora Colburn is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine from the Division of Infectious Disease as well as the Associate Medical Director of Epidemiology at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. The format for today’s program is that I am going to start off with an overview of the storage and preparation of the currently available COVID-19 vaccines. Next, Ryan Haley will be telling us about the logistics of setting up a COVID vaccination program. Dr. Colburn will tell us about the new mRNA technology being used for these vaccines. And finally, Dr. Parsons will be telling us about the safety and side effects of the vaccines.
