Learn About Clinical Presentations of Substance Intoxication and Withdrawal on our webcast. For thousands of years, almost every human society has used drugs in one form or another for their intoxicating effects. And our society is different only in that we now have access to many different drugs, both naturally occurring from plants and synthetically produced in chemical labs. Because of this, physicians need to know about the clinical presentations of more substances than ever before. To tell us about the recognition and management of substance intoxication and withdrawal, we welcome back addiction medicine specialist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry Dr. Julie Teater and also Assistant Professor from both the departments of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, Dr. Emily Kauffman.

As a result of this educational activity, webcast participants will be able to: DISCUSS the initial assessment of the intoxicated patient or patient in withdrawal; LEARN the different types of drug testing available, as well as how to interpret these tests; RECOGNIZE the common presenting signs of intoxication and withdrawal from common addictive substances; DESCRIBE treatment of intoxication and withdrawal, including any FDA-approved medications.
