Key Features:

  1. Elastic Webbing connects the heel cup of the shoe to the front part of the shoe in order to allow one to slide the shoe on with one hand while the elastic webbing provides a tight fit to hold the shoe on.
  2. The Spine Insert that is inside the heel cup portion of the shoe creates a sturdy back that will reduce wear.
  3. Decorative Shoelaces are added to give the shoes a familiar look, in the hopes of evoking a sense of normalcy.

Reflection:

As a team, we enjoyed this part of the project because it allowed us to dive deeper into a specific idea.  At first, it was difficult to come up with new eight new ideas that were unique, but after we started it was easier. Some ideas were unrealistic, but those ideas allowed for more creativity. Our ideas began to become more complex and unique. This task is definitely easier done with a team because it allows you to build of each other’s ideas. We all felt that our best ideas came from listening to each other. The final ideas we chose were the ones we thought would be the most helpful for our two personas. They are ideas that would be useful for all people, but they specifically make everyday tasks easier for upper-limb amputees. Some concerns we have are if our ideas are going to be able to be prototyped in the way we think they should. Prototyping is important because it will allow us to see if our products work in the way we think it will, and if the products would actually be useful for the consumer. Moving forward we are interested in seeing how our prototypes turn out.
